Isn't it a lot more difficult to maintain a warp core when it's buried deep within the starship with armor and mazes of pipes? It would probably be accessible with jeffries tubes only, and we know how problematic they can be...

Maybe just use 10 foot blast doors? :)

Too bad Exocomps didn't work out

This should be a secondary system as we all know what holographic systems are when it comes to safety. Hehe :D Perhaps I didn't clarify myself, like you said holographic emitters and who knows what not are easily damaged under low-power or high-damage conditions, holographic systems would be low-ma...

Bah! I never watched that TNG episode :? Yeah, well the more one thinks about it the stupider it gets... Why didn't they just coat the ship with some kelvanite??? ;) Or maybe just critical ship locations? I mean how hard can it be to get some materials which can do it (or for that matter generators ...

Yeah 3D screens are something I've been waiting on trek since way before TNG, hey take a look at ROTJ, it worked very well and it doesn't blow the budget either :)

It would look a lot cooler and it's very practical as well :!:

I think it would be a nice combo if they introduced holography into the main bridge, if they have holographic projectors there why not use them? eg. Create virtual repair crewment, benefits: you get good repair personnel, they ain't goofy, they don't sleep and they only use power More benefits inclu...

:) I do understand the point, but even so the forcefields can withstand explosives (so can armor of course), but a critical hit to certain ship systems (eg. force field generators, yes yes, I know they're from main power but sill...) will do that, the reason why those forcefields are put in the firs...

What does it take?

What adjustments are necessary to the Starfleet's ship and personnel equipment in order for it to be considered realistic and mostly common sense? We assume that this can be done only with existing technologies. (This is more ST redesign post then ST vs SW). I think the most common "warp core s...

I agree, still the TTT release hastened it's eventual bomb phase. Perhaps it would have improved? Nemesis, however bad is an immense improvement over ST 9: Insurrection, which earned MORE in it's opening period. :(

Who liked TTT anyway?

I agree with that, but hell all armor can be negated with explosives, perhaps a combination of force-fields and armor would have been better, but then again the coolness factor wouldn't be as high, and armor isn't exactly Trek's priority I guess. The phasers look nicer, still... The rifles break in ...

Trek Realism Enhanced?

I've found after watching Nemesis that the producers (or whatever) of the show have listened to (some) of the gripes people had about the TNG, Voyager and other movies. The fact that forcefields were placed around the warp core, weapons dispensers and more ergonomic tricorders (the PDA types) show s...

Back to discussion, You're kidding :!: I read up some on that 6000-year earth theory. I think that Jehovah Witnesses held that belief some time ago, do they still have it? Actually, I think Deep Space 9 was a solid and infinately better series in the realism area if not quite the Sci-fi that TNG was. Granted the ST universe was much less detailed without DS9, so I think that DS9 is a good improvement. Boobyprise of course doesn't count and Voyager never told us much a...

Perhaps a better analogy would be the Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy? It's a remark that bugs me but as you said, it could be offhand, after all, Dodonna doesn't have time to calculate exact firepower, nor does he need to. Alliance intelligence was pretty bad in those days. :?

That brings up a good point, is the glass on the ships transparent aluminum? We've seen it time and again burst under pressure which only normal glass displays (almost as though as if it was real glass :)). Seriously, we've seen it in Generations and else but how is that possible? I thought glass co...

Any place where 8472 concentrated firepower? It would be interesting to see how Borg cubes/ships get overloaded even with adaptive defenses. On the other hand, you need MASSIVE firepower to defeat the Borg in an overload type win, so I guess only the Imperials can provide it, not even Species 8472 c...

Imperial Starfleet the entire fleet?

Okay this is an informative query, we've heard multiple times in ANH that the Death Star has greater firepower than 1/2 of the Imperial Starfleet. I'm just curious, according to accepted fleet numbers on the BBS, that's a tad bit too high, even the Death Star has it's limitations. Granted the superl...

Funny thing is that I never thought that Borg could adapt forever, even if they could they couldn't just make the power of (any) weapons be worthless, that power has to go somewhere, so even if the Imperials get Borg which adapt to their turbolaser, it's uselsss, the energy will probably be routed t...

LOL! Well granted the Shat has been the spotlight of ST :) I think that the reason why people are frowned upon from the mid-US area is probably because people remember the bad old days from 1960s and Civil War, and since people believe that, the others won't bother to correct them, sure there are ex...
