Protoss vs Galactic Empire
Okay here's the situation: The Protoss are messing around with some Xel naga artifact and open a wormhole (so creative) to the SW universe, somewhere in the Mid Rim. The Empire decides to be its usual self and tries to conquer the Protoss. The Protoss here are from not long after their initial conta...

So called Medusa Weapons. They emit a specific frequency etc that inhibits higher brain function or possibly induces hallucinogenic affects.

Re: Dune 7 & 8 (Spoilers): Duncan Idaho?
Did Duncan Idaho, in Dune 7, develop prescience as well? I'm curious as to what makes an Ultimate Kwisatz Haderach so ultimate. I think he's "ultimate" because he can foresee EVERYTHING. Remember how Paul says his prescience is limited{like sight you cannot see without light}. I'm not 100...

The worst TV sci-fi ending ever
Every day something reminds me of how terrible the BSG ending was, sure it tyed up the loose ends but I get the feeling that the writers gave up writing the fourth season, said God did it and left. Does anyone know of an ending of a sci-fi tv series worse than BSG's?{I guess this post is a little po...

Re: Aliens of the Terran Confederation
OK, time for race number two. The Annites. The name Annite comes from where they were first encountered by humans, arround the informally named "Annie's Star" (after the exploring captain's infant daughter). They are the most recent race on the scene. Annites are a feathered (I tried to t...

Re: Most Minimalist Science Fiction
I wouldn't say 40 billion people is minimalist. I mean a colony in another star system starts with say 2000 people to start with I think it would take a very long time to even reach the billion mark.

It can'[t work because it relies on everyone being nice to each and not being greedy which ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN

Re: Aliens
Why has nobody in this thread questioned the assertions made in the OP? If two roughly equally advanced sentient species came into contact would they have anything to discuss? I would imagine quite a fucking bit. 'Hey we just discovered civilization advanced as our own... in space...enh, whatever.'...

Re: Aliens
Our own history and philosophy, no matter how alien it is to them. In fact, the more alien and incomprehensible the better, since that's going to be more interesting to study. Even if all we can send that they can understand at first is the naked physical facts of what happened and where. Maybe but...

Re: Terran Federation vs. Covenant
Slightly off-topic but this match-up seems remarkably similar to the actual war between the USNC and the Covenant. I suppose this is because the heavy influence Heinlein put upon the Halo universe. Back on topic, yes the war would be decided in space but it's difficult to determine the firepower of ...

If two roughly equally advanced sentient species came into contact would they have anything to discuss? Any species would be so different that the psychological barrier would be far to difficult to overcome, sure some basic ideas could be communicated but would there be any point?

Found some details for the confederation: 861 adamist planets, 8000+ Edenist habitats and one Edenist planet{Atlantis}, 5 independent habitats and several thousand independent asteroids. Fleet size: 9000 ZTT warships + more promised, 1000-1300 voidhawks and 1000 support craft. Added to this are the ...

Re: Galactic Empire vs Confederation
Note: The galactic empire in this post is the foundation one, sorry that it isn't clear in the subject. Anyways the point that the Confederation has inferior industrial capacity to the Galactic Empire{either one} is valid. The empire has the resources of an entire galaxy while the Confederation has ...

Re: Galactic Empire vs Confederation
Okay well the confederation is a loose alliance made to stop the use of antimatter and to keep the peace between systems. It has roughly 9000 ftl-capable warships plus additional ones pledged in a time of crisis. The ships carry combat wasps, as their main weapons, which are basically smaller autono...

I read something about journeys in human slipstream taking months but I either imagined it or, more likely, Covenant slipstream is just a hell of a lot faster.
