Re: Homosexuality and "Love the sinner, hate the sin"

Of course, I don't want to overgeneralize. I was referring primarily to the protestant denominations which oppose gay marriage in America.

Re: Homosexuality and "Love the sinner, hate the sin"

Problem or no, that Christian attitude towards homosexual practice is no different than the related attitude towards premarital sex. Namely: sex outside marriage is prohibited and marriage is between a man and woman. That's why you see such controversy about gay marriage; outside of a few passages i...

Re: Surgeons implant Lab Grown Trachea

Are there any groups concerned over the use of adult stem cells as in this case? I had thought the debate, at least in the US, was only concerning embryonic stem cells.

Re: Spinal Injury Repair

It was published in Nature; it's certainly not a fluff piece. You are right though, I imagine useful spinal regrowth processes for humans are a long ways off. Nevertheless, at least we have an idea of how we might go about it now.

Re: Godhood - A dilemma

That was an interesting summing up Eagle, and while I may tend to agree with you that perhaps 'perception' is disassociated with rationality, knowledge, etc., I do not quite understand your assertion that 'perception' is a property of matter. What does this mean? Perhaps one cannot disprove the idea...

Spinal Injury Repair

Until the last few decades, it was generally thought that damage to the spinal cord was permanent, as the nerves within our vertebrae stubbornly resist regrowing severed connections after injuries. But a number of studies have helped us understand why exactly it is that the nerves refuse to grow, r...

Re: Surgeons implant Lab Grown Trachea

If I recall from the WSJ article this morning, it isn't really a matter of complexity. The method they used only works on roughly cylindrical organs; they drip the stem cells onto the scaffold as it rotates, then use 'chemicals' to differentiate the cells into the specific cells needed. So, no luck ...

Re: Proun

They're fixed, and the game comes with 4 if you just download it, 5 if you pay something. I think there might be some people adding modded tracks on their site.

Re: inFAMOUS 2 [Spoilers]

Do you guys think this is worth picking up? I loved the first one, but that $60 console game thing always hits me hard.

Proun

Have you guys seen Proun yet? It's a sort of racing game along a line in an abstract environment; rather hard to describe, but very striking. (I uploaded a clip yesterday, it's rather harder than it looks.) Anyway, I thought it was interesting, and the developers are running a 'pay what you want' pr...

Re: Red Faction: Origins

Yep. It was good, but the lack of sledgehammers really brought it down for me.

(I mean, what is Red Faction but a bunch of Martians with sledgehammers destroying stuff?!)

Re: Red Faction: Origins

I was quite surprised by how good it was, considering it was a SciFi original movie. But the entire movie I was waiting for Alec Mason to grab a sledgehammer and destroy some stuff and it never happened.

Re: CERN Traps Antimatter for 1000 seconds

That's rather surprising, I thought we hadn't been able to hold anti-hydrogen for anywhere near that long. I am somewhat interested as to whether that is the maximum time they can hold them; it seems here like they deliberately released the anti-hydrogen atoms so as to study them.

Re: New Member Introductions

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a while, and I thought I might sign up for the occasional post. I'm a math major, and I am just just about to finish up my undergraduate work. (Real Analysis begins next Tusday. :) ) In fitting with the proper demographics for such a forum as this, I am a Starga...
