Re: (RAR!) A new streaming series that Dominates the AH fandom's attention

The Draka's have always had potential as a good villain force. They can be compelling for it's easier to imagine and understand the very human evils that drive them. They are in the end a magnification of the evils in us all. Would I be excited about a show? I'd have to see who was working on the pr...

Re: New law will fine stores for separating toys by gender

Wal-Mart sells groceries and has a pharmacy. Grocery and pharmacy stores are on the list for being essential. Therefore Wal-Mart is essential. Where by Wal-Mart by being open keeps it's General Merchandise aisles open. Thus keeps selling the same items as stores not allowed to operate because they o...

Re: RIP Eddie Van Halen.

He will be missed for being the bedrock that could keep a band like Van Halen going when bands around it were collapsing under the pressures of ego. He was also a positive example of how to be a star. So many great artists in music and comedy self destruct. Eddie was an example of carrying on with o...

I wonder how that data breaks down in racially integrated churches verse those that are still segregated. The failure of churches to proactively desegregate could be part of this.

Re: New Empire vs New rebellion in the sequels: Biggest mistake?

I would go with it only worked due to The Supremacy being a ludicrously large target. It would fit well with other oversized ships in the franchise allowing small fighters to get through. It would dovetail with how Finn and Rose were able to get onboard. It also would fit other facts we know about t...

I remember an interview were Timothy Zahn said Grand Admiral Thrawn came from a need to have a competent villain who was very different from Vader and Palpatine. The pair were Iconic in their rolls of Dark Knight and Evil WIzard. Rather than trying to top what the movies did so well you had to take ...

I have lost all my grandparents and one step grandfather. My Mothers Mothers, the last to die, was the hardest. She helped me when I was in a very bad place. I recall a thought that came to me when I looked at her face for the last time that might be comforting. I saw her life in my mind as being li...

It is not as if this were occuring in a vacuum either. You start to get a clear image of a pattern of behavior only limited by the expected damage to the reputation of China. The Chinese government has interfered with the succession of the Dalai Lama. The world has not leveled a punishment they were...

Re: Are people taking the wrong message from the failure of Game of Thrones' final season?

I have to agree with Faxmodem1 but would expand his point. The change from highly political near soap opera that clearly showed each character's growth and how they evolved and why the decisions they made had internal consistency given their in character knowledge was what hurt the show. The books a...

Re: Who decides what gets to stay up on the internet?

It is a Freedom vs Responsibility scale. We have many such balancing acts most of them were set up on purpose. The balancing act that is supposed to be maintained is if you say horrible things in public you are free to do so. This reveals who you are inside. People of good character are responsible ...

This episode actually happened. Janeway killed the clown. Exactly! Just because the Prime Directive can justify allowing a shitty situation to continue does not mean it always does so. Violations of the Prime Directive for good cause are often upheld if the reasoning is sound. As of Drumhead Picard...

Re: Forbes: The Best (And Scariest) Examples Of AI-Enabled Deepfakes

Democracy and the rule of law predate video and even picture evidence by a very generous margin. What we will see is an evolution of the standards of evidence found to be beyond reasonable doubt. This same worry and chicken little reaction to it happened in the 1990's when the ability to fake photos...

I think the important takeaway here is that most of the beings in this Hell seem to be their against their will. They were placed their by a government and culture that are now defunct. Liberation would be a possible answer and not in conflict with the prime directive. They are Warp capable and if t...

Also until captain Marvel took out the ship it is a good bet the satellites would have been easy targets for it's weapons systems. Once the ship was taken out the tactical focus was on Thanos himself against which the drones would have barely been a distraction. It looks like Edith would have been a...

Yes, fans can be awful and the levels of entitlement and agnst are unreal. The megaphone effect of social media has given a torch and pitchfork into the hands of idiots. I still don't think producers directors writer and studios get to pass the buck. Maybe a 2 or 3 dimes but not the full buck. I've ...

Re: Ahsoka Tano vs Rey (Skywalker?)- what makes a "Mary Sue"?

I would agree that Ahsoka has better character pacing. I think the last Jedi suffers from picking up where the Force Awakens left off. The film should have had a time skip as the other movies of the main Saga had two or three years of training would feel less world breaking than two or three days.
