Re: New Blood (multi-series fusion)
While our collaborative efforts have waned over the past few years, back during the original writing period we were playing original flavour Lovecraft collaboration, which is to say we would name drop certain things from the work of the other just to make cheeky little references and also to sort of...

Re: New Blood (multi-series fusion)
Stepping off the transport with a large and heavy cylinder in his hands, Agent Jackson immediately thrust the black box into the arms of Group Director Zeny and then threw a crisp salute to Project Director Kamina. After a moment he said, "Sir, permission to punch someone of authority, sir!&quo...

Re: New Blood (multi-series fusion)
Boredom was a concept that tended to be restricted to certain classes of intelligent life, with only a rather limited grouping being capable of the state. Alex Mercer was technically not one of those beings, as he could play around with his own biochemistry and simply suppress the physiological caus...

Re: New Blood (multi-series fusion)
Sparring with a vampiric abomination capable of casually ripping mecha apart with her bare hands was quite intense exercise. If Ellie had not already spent her formative years as an urban spelunker and pack mule she was fairly certain the experience would have caused her to collapse into a splutteri...

Re: Modern Shooters Played Out (CoD)
Why is the idea of refusing to do what the game railroads you into doing so anathema? What are the consequences? The consequences are that you just paid $60 for a coaster. By that standard you probably own a great deal of coasters. In fact, there are a number of interesting points where The Line is...

Re: Modern Shooters Played Out (CoD)
I will preface this with the fact that I have not played Spec Ops: The Line, but I have been reading up a lot of the analysis on it, so here is what I have gathered that has made the game such a gut punch: they mostly successfully use the mechanics as the mechanism by which they tell their Heart of ...

Re: US government Shutdown
I forgot this tidbit: Two people have tried to take issue with my claim, based on their personal anecdotes. Connor MacLeod shot your case in the foot - he did exactly what I recommended and benefitted substantially from it. He nonetheless believes this is a powerful counter-example for reasons that...

Re: Orbital Inclination? What's that? Gravity (film) spoiler
That prompted me to Google "is gravity sexist". Apparently it encourages damsel in distress stereotypes with the panicky woman and the calmn collected male, who even had to return in a hallucination to save the day. Funnily enough when my girlfriend (who knows a hell of a lot more about f...

Re: Crossroads attempts to "Win" MoO-III
Country mode is basically Colony mode, in a simplistic sense. Colonies are self-starting independent nations, and should be treated as such. That allows them to develop a national character, manage their own affairs, lead rebellions, and possibly even share space on a planet with people they don't ...

Re: Crossroads attempts to "Win" MoO-III
Some interesting ideas here. Perhaps a split to some sort of "Space 4X brainstorming" thread so that this drift from the initial topic of "winning" MoO3 is out of the way? Anyway, I was ruminating on the whole division of ages that has been bandied about here, and that got me to ...

Moments and Pieces (40k)
A writing exercise to get me writing again. I have... well, the title pretty much says it all, so I am writing them down in a deliberately Chaotic and nonlinear manner. I hope you all enjoy the weirdness while I rev back up to prior projects. --- Moments. Fragments of a larger whole all spin togethe...

Chapter Fifteen Kenwa Nalten - the Shadow Hidden In Darkness - was hailed by his community as the best scout of his generation. Now, admittedly he was rather young and thus not the best scout in the tribe, but he knew both his skill and his limits, which was why he was trusted with one of the rare ...

Well that was a crappy bit of writer's block. --- Chapter Fourteen Inquisitor Kennard was not the sort of man who considered himself excessively cruel. Deliberately cruel most certainly, but always out of necessity and always in careful dosages. It was far easier to do his job when people were coope...

Chapter Thirteen The primary shrine to the Omnissiah on the Dirge of Heresy was a dark, secluded place that was utterly unwelcoming to outsiders. For those blessed with the proper implants, the shrine shone brightly in the noosphere, great cascading waterfalls of data and electro-hymns that gave gr...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)
Some comments regarding Btech culture, although I saw your comments over in SB as well. 1. Is the pirates planet based on an internal slave economy or a raiding one? There's nothing wrong with mixing archetypes, but I would like to know it better. If the later, especially where slaves are captured,...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)
Yeah, it was a combination of experienced fingers feeling that something was off, a keen eye, the way things were not quite fitting, and most importantly access to tools. The incorrect parts thing is a test to see if you actually know what you are doing and can identify bad parts instead of just jam...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)

It was something to look at in a half drunken haze, a way to fill the time in between eating, sleeping, and d...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)
Okay, it seems like my worry was unnecessary. I just felt that if I posted something that just one reader felt was unnecessary for today that I would be doing them a disservice. My worries really are only tangential, but I didn't want to appear like my bad timing was an attempt to cash in on for wha...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)
So I was planning on posting Chapter Eleven tonight. The plot of the chapter deals with a shoot out between Imperials and those who aren't happy about their actions, and a lot of civilians get caught in the crossfire. This chapter was completed back in March before life decided to club me upside the...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)
I'm not exactly sure how that came up since there hasn't been any 40k vehicle vs. BT vehicle combat yet, but yeah, I know that Rhino chassis vehicles are vulnerable to BT weapons, especially on the sides, and the Marines caught the first 'Mechs (which were poorly maintained and had the equivalent of...

Re: Sparks From the Edge (40K/BT)
There are some....... problems with the depiction of pirates in the story. Its not impossible to create a pirate economy that's workable, even in the Periphery. Pirates raiding other more prosperous planets for slaves/serfs, industrial equipment and etc work. Pirates raiding for water? Not so much....
