Ummm, no. In both cases, entirely new models were built. The Falcon in ANH was roughly 5', and they replaced it with a smaller, 32" model for ESB, because they needed it to be more lightweight and maneuverable. The ISD in ANH was 3', give or take. For ESB, they replaced it with an 8' model that...

I thought that the MF from ANH didn't have the landing gear "boxes" like that one does? Awesome fucking pics either way! :D The "boxes" are there, as in the structural shapes. From what I can tell, what is missing is the hatches that the landing gear come out of. Glad you like t...

New hi-res shots of models from A New Hope

Hello all, I just got back from the Star Wars: Where Science Meets the Imagination exhibit in Fort Worth, and I have a couple hundred 8-megapixel shots that I will be posting online. I photographed the ISD Devastator (3-foot version from ANH), the 4-foot Millenium Falcon from ANH, the Tantive IV, an...

It's worse than that. Lucas originally wanted Star Wars to premier on Divx machines, the ones that only read time-limited discs. Basically, he wanted us to buy the discs once, then have to pay him again to re-activate the discs after a certain limited number of viewings. It would've been Star Wars: ...

They may be able to add more DRM to a downloaded video than would be possible with HD-DVD or Blu Ray content. Obviously, they aren't gonna just sell an unencrypted file download. That would be all over the various torrent networks almost instantaneously. Can you name me even one DRM scheme that was...

Go to Cloudster for images of the MK II, and Forbidden Plastic for the MK I. I don't have my reference images on this PC.

How do you even tell a mk1 and mk 2 apart? They all look the same to me though. Ok, here goes: 1) the structures on top of the bridge tower are different - the MK I has an "x" shaped deal, the MK II has more of an inverted "U" shape 2) The primary turrets are different 3) The MK...

Well, the filming model is more than twice as large (8 feet versus 3 feet) and considerably more detailed. It makes sense that the Imperator would get more coverage. Even in drawings? :wtf: Kinda hard to tell whether inaccurate drawing "A" is a misrepresentation of the Avenger or the Deva...

This is the second set of screencaps I've seen from the Hi-Def OT. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people do so many captures of random scenes with the characters, and so few of the space scenes. Not that I don't love the characters, but come on, I need some 1080p Avenger love!

Thanks for those, mate! I have the hi-def versions stored on my mother-in-law's DVR, but can't get screencaps or make an archived backup. The cable company apparently "forgot" to enable the firewire port on the DVR. I don't suppose you could post some captures of the Star Destroyer seen in...

Very nice. Is the panel method automated somehow, and if so, how closely does it match the studio model? No automation, all manually cut. This is not an exact replica of the studio model's panels, more of an "in the style of" kind of thing. However, I have tried to preserve some of the mo...

Screen captures from Hi-Def Original Trilogy?

Hello all, The Original Trilogy has been broadcast in HD on Cinemax and on HBO. I have it on my mother-in-law's HD DVR, but cannot extract the files for backup, and cannot take screen captures. Would anyone have any screen captures from Empire and/or Jedi? Specifically, I am looking for hi-def shots...

Still not worn down, but it does have a lot more panels now:

Straight procedural, with different materials having slightly different shades of gray. There's no weathering to speak of on the studio model, nor do there appear to have been a lot of ink washes, though possibly some dry brushing. No real need for a texture, in other words.

If all of the greebles are visible, 1.4 million roughly, but that's a little misleading since you'd never see the engine details at the same time as the terrace details.

Excellent work Jedilaw - can we look forward to more of this sort of high-quality work? Thanks, rhoenix, and thanks to all the others who have offered appreciation/encouragement/statements of Fractalsponge's obvious and eternal domination. I will post periodic updates as the project continues. What...

Looks like Fractal Sponge has competition! Not competition, no. Fractalsponge's ISD will always be kick-ass, IMHO. Actually, He's been helping me quite a bit with this project. No one knows the 8' ISD better than he does, except some of the old-timers at ILM (most of whom have left). As for there b...

That is very pretty. Keep it up! What are you planning to use it for, if anything? Local interdiction, suppression of rebellions, that sort of thing... HD-quality animations, eventually. The looooong term goal is to create "hero" models of each section, similar to the 10' trench se...

WIP: Imperator-class Star Destroyer in 3DS Max

Hello all, New member here, with a Work-In-Progress that I thought might be of interest to you guys, seeing as how this is a site dedicated to Star Destroyers: It's a greeble-for-greeble reproduction of the 8' Star Destroyer model used in the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I've been wor...
