REQUEST: Flash Artists

Post by Lord Poe »

Hey Flashies;

I've had Flash 5 for over a year, and haven't used it yet. Now, I have a project in mind where it would come in handy. Can someone explain a quickie "tutorial" on how I'd go about making an Indiana Jones-type map with a red line that we follow from point A to point B?

Tanks!

Can you give more details? I don't really understand what you want.

Remember how the Indiana Jones movies started out? All the flashy stuff, the planes flying around, etc. Well, remember the map that was always in the background, and which during the movie would have a moving red line on it that traced Indy's path?

I think that's what he wants.

a)put the complete map on the first layer.

b) put a red box with the same size as the map on the second layer. this layer should be above the first layer.

c) position the red box "outside" of the map. e.g. if the red line is supposed to start on the left position the red box to the left of the map.

d) make a copy of the map and position it on the third layer. this layer has to be above the red box layer.

e) cut a hole with the exact shape of the complete red line into the second map.

d) animate the red box so it moves from left to right.
the red box will move in between the two maps. and will only be revealed at the places where the second map has the hole.

Thanks, Salm. that sounds like the easiest way to do it. Craz 9000 is right, that's the Indy map I was talking about. Comosicus, I wouldn't mind hearing your ideas as well.

Ok, we have the red line. Now, how about the map moving as we follow the line's journey? Sort of like it'll be scrolling "up" as we watch the line travel. Should I have the stage color blue (for the ocean) and the continents on one layer, moving slower than the red box?

Also is it easy for Flash to zoom in slightly on the line's final destination?

I have to go home during the weekend, so I won't be able to help you in the next days. But if you can put some images online where I can download them I could give it a try when I'll be back.

yeah, sounds good.

yeah, that´s a way of doing it.

i haven´t used flash for ages. but i´m quite sure that this is easy. you won´t be zooming in though but you´ll simply make the map larger. you insert a keyframe at the end of the line animation.
then you insert a keyframe a couple of frames further, scale up the map and all the other stuff with the end point of the red line focused. then insert a movement tween(i think that´s what it´s called. i´ve got the german version).
perhaps there are better ways for scaling. as i said, i haven´t used flash for years.

Hey Salm;

I'm still working on this thing. But when I try to "cut a hole" into the second map, it doesn't seem to work. If I try to deaw a line into map2, or even try to put an oval on it, the line or oval goes "right through" the map and ontp the stage.
