Hmmm...okay, add more grace, add more of those slight human...position inclinations and the like. Less straight...more..umm...inclined and angled.

@ Verilon: Huh? Whaddaya mean?

@ Gil: That's difficult! I'm no good at that. Before these two pictures, I was stuck in drawing 2d mugshots of things. I never had any experience in things like that.

@ Peregrine: LoL. My flag is just what the US flag would most probably be like if it ever becomes an interstellar entity.

EDIT:

And being the shameless plugger that I am, how about rating my fanfic? :D

Just out of curiosity. how do you draw your characters? Do you just sketch them, or draw out their poses first? I've always found that my poses look much more dynamic when I do even rudimentary skeletons (greater than stick figures, but not by much - lines and a couple circles for the torso should suffice).

Other than that, looks good. You have a good idea of detail, and some idea of shading, which is more than I ever accomplished :) If you can get your poses down you're well on your way to great drawing-ness.

Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!

I just couldn't help but draw parallels.

BTW - I've also noticed that the USE Marine looks like the Kasrkin from Warhammer 40K:

"No, actually I would HATE to have a cookie, you vapid waste of inedible flesh!"

The best way that I can say this is to practise how the hand looks on the pole first. For example, put your own hand on a pipe and draw that at a smaller scale. Then draw the arm. Etc., etc.

Well, I sketched the head first, then the body and the arms and all that. I'll keep your advice in mind.

Yay! How come you know so much if you claim your drawing skills ain't that good? :?

@ Ver: Mmm...good advice. I tried looking at myself to figure out how long the arms were and how far they reached on the legs.

@ Per: Cool! That looks like a scottish space marine with a skirt and a battle rifle instead of a bag pipe.

Shroom, I think you're taking the constructive criticisms as some sort of checklist for "good" art. Everyone has their own interpertation and style of how they create art. Look at Picasso, crazy guy can't draw as we define it, but it's some of the most wonderful art ever created.

Or even if you look at old Asian art on those scrolls or screens. They're very 2-dimensional but they, like good Western art no matter the style: they all have depth.

Depth is really a subjective thing on how you look at it and furthermore how you represent it. Depth could be the difference in how you shade something, or an oblong circle, I couldn't tell you and more than likely no one here can either.

The best suggestions here were, keep drawing and studying. Find your style, as cliche as that might be, but most importantly, figure out how to transform that flat 2-D into a thousand words.

Okay. It usually is a pain to draw things, but I had easier time with my second drawing than with my first one. Though that could be explained by my second drawing's lack of much background, but I really felt that drawing the marine was easier this time.

if it was easy everybody could do it and there wouldn´t be any need for professional drawers. good drawings are hard by definition.
