Post by Aaron »

So I'd like to make my avatar rotate, does anyone know how to do such a thing?

You need to make it an animated gif file, I believe. Beyond that, I have no idea, sorry....

You stare at it really hard while rotating the monitor. DUH! :P

Beyond that, I have no idea.

Have a very nice day.

There's a lot of GIF animation software out there, but the best trick is to find somebody who actually knows how to use it and then ask them.

Alternatively, copious amounts of tequila will make just about anything rotate when you look at it.

An animated .gif, though the resulting image will be atrocious in quality and almost certainly over the 6 kb limit.

Well the one in my current avatar, but if it'll be over the 6kb limit than don't bother. But I do appreciate the thought, thanks.

Animated .gifs really arn't all that hard, the really hard part is getting the file size under the 8k limit.

Do you mean rotate on an axis through the center of the image, such that we're always looking at the same face, or rotate as in we see it side-on at some point? How fast are we talking?

No rotate so we see it side on at some point. 360 degree rotation every 5 seconds or so.

I can *try*, but since I'm at work for the next week or two, and I'm on thier comps (until I can figure out wtf my laptop won't connect to the satellite net connection), I can't promise the best results......

I might be able to get it under 6k....I have a nice animated Unicron which is under 6k, and he even eats a world.

If you have MS Office you have MS Photo Draw. It´s one of the shittiest grafic programs that exists but this rotation thing you want is really easy to do with it. And it offers acceptable results.

To make anything looking smooth and keeping anything close to the original picture quality, I've been ending up with 50-70k files. Perhaps if the animation could be shorter, or less smooth, I could narrow down the frames a bit..
