Inspired by Mrs Kendall's spiffy new avatar, let us discuss one of the best bands ever to emerge from Seattle. I may sound more optimistic than usual here, but part of me hopes that Operation Mindcrime II will defy my expectations and live up to the hype.
Having said that, I am one of many who thinks QR should have packed it in after Chris DeGarmo jumped ship. Things were never really the same between the band members after the looooooonnnggg Empire tour of 1990-91, and even though Promised Land was and still is a great record, I consider it their last gasp of brilliance before the rot set in.
I enjoy all their albums up to and including PL and listen to each one regularly depending on my mood, but if I had to pick a favourite I'd go with Rage For Order. The Killing Words and I Will Remember both give me shivers, especially the unplugged versions.

Hehehe, cool, I feel so .. ummm.. special My wicked avatar sparked some conversation!! I agree, the last album I ever bothered to buy was Promised Land. My hubby just bought the Greatest hits album and most of the songs are on the Empire and Promised Land albums so it was pretty much a waste of money as I don't enjoy the remaining songs but who's to know huh. So there, you know the albums I have, I must get EMPIRE on cd though as I only have it on tape.

Tsyroc, Scarborough Fair is on the remastered version of Empire. EMI/Capitol reissued all the QR albums (up to Hear In The Now Frontier) with bonus tracks a couple of years ago. Get them now if not sooner. You won't be disappointed.
All I know for certain about OM II is that they played one song off it ("Hostage") over the PA during the last tour. Then again I haven't checked the website for a while, so maybe there's been some more info revealed.
Mrs K, money spent on the Greatest Hits CD wasn't wasted at all! Now you have The Lady Wore Black, Take Hold of the Flame, Walk In The Shadows and I Don't Believe In Love just to name a few. Also the full band version of Someone Else, which is so spine-tinglingly good I can't decide which one I like best .
Unless of course you got Classic Masters rather than Greatest Hits. CM *is* a total cash in job... hehehe.

Yeah I suppose those songs are ok I'm not sure if I like them as much as the other ones on the Empire and Promised Land albums though. But that's just me, might be just because the other songs I have remind me of my teenage years
I remember that song "Silent Lucidity" from Empire, since it was played on MTV so much when I was in 5th and 6th grade. I liked it, and even though I was a heavy metal fan then, Queensryche seemed to be more prog and artsy which just wasn't cool for a young adolescent who was wearing Metallica and G&R t-shirts carrying around cigarettes.
Operation Mindcrime is the Best. Album. Ever. And Promised Land is damn good, too. I never get tired of listening to them.

So are you saying you stopped listening to Queensryche because you were afraid nobody would understand and they would make fun of you for not being tough enough as you tried to portray?
BAD MISTAKE you could have listened to them in your own room on your own time when none of your friends would hear it dude. you missed out on a lot of good music. And no I don't agree with you about them not being rock, they are not heavy metal but they are good rock and you depreived yourself of their greatness. Now go GO! Put a Queensryche cd on and NOW!
Bertie, for all their prog leanings I've never had any trouble considering Queensryche a metal band. Then again, my tastes are a bit on the eclectic side. I have Tori Amos filed right after Aerosmith and Black Sabbath next to The Beatles .
If I remember my history, QR even supported Metallica back in '88. 'Twas just before Mindcrime went *huge* and the record company was a hair's breadth away from pulling them off the road to write their next album. Then MTV started showing the video for Eyes of A Stranger and the rest is history.
