nice holy bolter work, except of course a marine's duty doesn't always end when he ceases to draw breath....

Damn straight. It should be "while my geneseed organs are still harvestable... And my brain has not been destroyed... And my flesh not irrepairably tainted..."

Hmph. Unless your planet has some unocupied Dreadnought Sarcophagi lying around, I maintain that in the 41st millenium, a Space Marine's duty ends very shorly after he stops breathing.

Glad ye liked it.

Its cool, no doubt, but Marines are a recoverable asset. Gene-seed organs especially.

Pussy. Real Marines throttle the enemy with their very own major intestine!

Admittedly, I don't know much about 40k, but I have gathered a general image of it from discourse here. That said, the idea of a space marine defending an innocent, human or not, seems a bit off.

Nevertheless, its an excellent work.

There are innocent filthy xenos scum? Heresy!

And pah, I say. Pah! You and your second edition, where Da Boyz were not funny, where Space Marines were psychopathic monstrosities better suited to a biker gang than a holy order, where "In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future, there is only War, nobody wears anything but rags or greasy, blood- and sweat-stained leather, and every last person has a pounding headache, because it's just that fucking grim!"

Without light, darkness is boring; without heroism, villany is just depressing; without hope, drama is gone.

So, unto thee, I say pah!

Feil is right and he's captured what I like most about Space Marines right here; they're heroes. Some might be raging psychopaths, but in general, they're heroes. When a man will thrown himself atop a person to protect them from helicopter gunship fire with no concern for their own safety, I will be impressed.

Depends which ones. Some are more aware of their position as the ultimate protectors of humanity than others, though their ultimate loyalty is always the Emperor first, everything else second.

Nitpick: Primarch and Chapter first, Emperor second, everything else third.

A very fine artwork indeed. You've captured the essence of the Space Marine. In a galaxy where horrible xenos scum besiege from without, dark gods that warp minds and space from above and traitors from within, there is one shining hope left for the common man- The shining fist of the Emperor's Will, the Space Marines.

Sure, half the chapters will use you to absorb the first few shots from the enemy, but you'll get the odd one like the Salamanders and the Space Wolves who actually care about people and they'll try and protect you.

Emperor SECOND? Uhh.... I'm not well versed on lore becuase I dont tabletop play it; but that has to be wrong. They worship the Emperor. Some are misguided, sure... And others revoke the Emp altogether... even some who dont go chaos. But if you go by Index Astartes chapters, which is supposed to be 'generic' SM dogma, it shows that the Emp is first... doesnt it?

Not sure about all that though.. its speculation derived from various tidbits of info gathered through my GW.com and google visits... Can anyone else clue me in here?

Still... nice pic.

No. It is you who are mistaken. About a great many things!

Space Marines don't give an Eldar's ass about the Ministorum's official dogma. They worship the Emperor, certainly; it is a primary facet of every chapter cult--but the Primarch ('father') and the Chapter ('family') comes first. It's rather similar to clan/family loyalty vs. national/religious loyalty of real life.

Indeed; it's why a few Chapters go rogue even ten millenia after the Heresy. And it's why Space Marines are notoriously unreliable when dealing with the Inquisition (they always have their own agenda, one invariably revolving around their Chapter and its dogma).

If a hypothetical Inquisitor were to ask for the aid of a few nearby Marines, and should said hypothetical party encounter a hypothetical suit of Tactical Dreadnought armor deep in the bowels of some forgotten ruin, then said Marines will rather quickly make off with their Chapter's newest treasured relic and flip the hypothetical Inquisitor the bird.

not to mention some (space wolves, and black templars) have a reputation for having "accidents" around inquisitors. *he was sniffing around the Fang, we thought he was a chaos heretic*
