University of Iowa music machine

Post by Chiaroscuro »

If you guys haven't seen this before, it's pretty amazing.
AOL webmail link removed, see below. ~Dalton

Built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa, this apparently took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming the video. It's currently on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University, but they intend to donate it to the Smithsonian--it would be awesome to see it in person.

One, the goddamn link!

Two, what's your screen name and password?
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

University of Iowa Music Machine--hoax

Post by Chiaroscuro »

Shit. I apologize for posting that previous link to the video of the supposed "University of Iowa music machine." It does not, in fact, exist, and is a hoax, put together by computer animators. I just got so excited when I saw the video that I posted the link without checking it first.
I wish someone would make something like that...

Seen it before. It's called Pipe Dream. It was animated by Animusic

You can tell it's fake because it's too clean

Plus, the balls don't make any extraneous sounds. Like, in that "fountain" hitting the vibes. Where do the balls go?

BTW, that's not the whole thing. here's the whole thing.

Oh, and it's rumored that they have it set up so you can put any song in assign, assign instruments, and it will do the whole thing automatically.

It's not meant to be a hoax... It's just a really cool animation project :)

Wow. The only animation I've seen that warrants a standing ovation. Very cool. :D

If it was real, they wouldn't need to waste money animating it. :P

Still lovely to hear.
