A re-imagining of the Galactic Federation Navy uniforms from the Metroid game series. I always thought that the uniforms worn by Federation naval personnel looked pretty ridiculous, so I wanted to try my hand at making my own along with accompanying rank insignia in Photoshop. The uniforms themselves are of my own design, but the marine armor is taken directly from Metroid Prime 2, which in my opinion is better-looking than the ones seen in MP3.

Interesting. The insignia are alright, and the uniforms are mostly cool.
The only thing I don't get are the metal hand guards and boots. What are they for? The metal on the enlisted seems particularly useless - it looks heavy and uncomfortable, but doesn't cover enough of the torso to be useful. It would be better to make two uniforms - one for dress, one for work.

I had intended for the boots, forearms, and chest armor to be more lightweight-looking and flexible, like the armor on the original designs, but it didn't turn out that way. It was my way of at least partially keeping true to Retro's official uniform designs, while not looking as silly as the head-coverings and crotch-armor plates. The enlisted uniform's chest itself is based off of a similar feature on the uniforms worn by the Pillar of Autumn's crew from Halo.Darth Smiley wrote:Interesting. Add hooks/buttons to the top of that flap and one under the breast step. Like, the way it is now, but also on the step above it and below it. That way it'll stay nice and tight. Also: why do the enlisted have blue glow in the dark night lights on their metal vests? They aren't the Master Chief (are they? I can't make out his rank). They don't get shields, what good is cannon fodder with shields?

Maybe I should do away with the pair of silver clasps entirely; they look pretty out of place, and maybe it could be like the TOS movie uniform flaps that are externally secured only by a shoulder strip.
Speaking of ST, all those blue and yellow lights are there just to make it look futuristic; I have no idea what their purpose is, kind of like the UFP's tendency to overuse technology. This organization is also called the Federation, after all...
