A few Photos from near a work thing I worked on near Jerusalem last week, for a few days. (It's not secret or anything, but go find it yourself if you want the exact location, lazy sods )


Biblical. (Well, not really, but the best out of some rather crappy landscape photos)


Attempts at being artsy, failing due to a lot of ambient light, and wind, making the smoke almost invisible.


A nice Macro shot, I just like vibrant colours .



A lot more biblical, I just like the clouds here, even if it's not that great.



There were a few artists by the hotel, this old fellow seemed like the best one.

That second picture looks great. Did you use a flash though? Because the highlights on the hand look blown out. Next time you try a picture like that maybe use a wider aperture, which will also blur out hte backround a bit more.

The landscapes are a bit dark, but I like how you composed them!

Nope, no flash, just a lot of light from a nearby window.

Next time you try a picture like that maybe use a wider aperture, which will also blur out hte backround a bit more.

All of the pictures were taken with a compact, Aperture control is for people with either a bigger budget, or less weight restrictions .

The landscapes are a bit dark, but I like how you composed them!

I made them that way, since with more lighting they're just dull, although they didn't look so dark on my computer, it might not have changed my edits when exporting for the upload. I prefered coloured skies to more visible (Everything else), especially since the contents aren't much to look at.

They're pretty dark on my monitor, but I know mine has that problem now. I can't see a lot of pictures properly now.

Why can't I find the link on flickr to see the bigger images?

You just click on the image itself, it's a built in link to the flickr page. (Although I only uploaded ~1.5-2MP size photos to Flickr anyway, I switched my pro account investment from Flickr Pro to Picasa).

Holy Crap. I think I actually stayed at that exact hotel while near Jerusalem of my Israel trip a couple of years ago. Can't remember the name, tho, but the buildings, pillars with vines, and views are similar. Is there an old bunker near it by any chance?

I noticed that after I made my post! I knew you had a dSLR, forgot you had another camera. I really need to get a P&S

Ah, you were trying to focus on the skys more. Makes sense. I thought you were going more for the stuff on the ground, not the sky.

No, I meant, on flickr there's a link to 'all sizes' or something, and then it lets you see a larger image. There's none of that.

Yup, you probably were, they have loads of tourists & conferences there, and it's by a well known village with great Humus.

It looks good (better), but the focus on the hand weakens that on the cigarette for some reason . Still looks better, I really need to get some photo editing software beyond Picasa or Paint.Net.

No, I meant, on flickr there's a link to 'all sizes' or something, and then it lets you see a larger image. There's none of that.

Er, the "Link to all sizes" works fine for me, I tested it yesterday just to make sure. Click on it, then large size. If you want something full size, then I can always email it to you, or set up a quick album in picasa's web albums, if you ask nicely .

Its probably because the focus is drawn in by the cigarette being so bright and the hand being less detailed. Once you see the hand, that draws you in more.

I really like Lightroom, and I find it fairly easy to use(I self taught). It can be used for just basic editing, and you can do some pretty advanced manipulations in it. It seems more aimed to photgraphers aswell.
Anything really serious would require photoshop though. Admittedly I have about 2 years of classes on photoshop though.

Ha, when I get bored I just take pictures of things around my room. Just go out and take pictures of whatever you see. Try and find interesting angles to look at regular things. Play around with exposure and aperture to see what fun things you can do. Photography is all about coming up with your own stuff, and not carbon copying other stuff, just using it at inspiration
