Ok, i need to draw a brief comic strip for the wh/40k universes, so if possible, would some good good people help me think up a short storyline, and give me some reference pictures? It's kind of important cos i said i'd send my cv and some pics off to GW for my dole-dossing.
I'm a bit stuck for a story, as i'm not all that acquainted with the WH40kverse, as far as i can tell, it's got to be a human story, set in recent wh40k timeline.

Genestealers. Have an Inquisitor/Police officer (I forget the ordos name)/Civilian come acrossed it and then a rush against time to keep the Genestealer Brood from toppling the planet's government and opening it up for a hive fleet.

And then (if it's a civilian or Arbites (police officer) have them "purged" to prevent contamination. Ain't life a bitch when you live in a galaxy where human lives are expendable ?Tasoth wrote:Genestealers. Rye: I take it you've already looked through the official sites for pics?
Possible Story idea:
Human soldier captured by the Tau. Since the Tau are fairly (for lack of a better word) humane in their treatment of prisoners and since they let just about anyone join if they submit to "the greater good", have a human POW being tempted by the Tau to join them. Bring in an old friend of the soldier who has since joined the Tau to try and convince him to join. Rather than have an "action" story you could have a more psychhlogical story ( Like Traitor in the NJO) and explore the beliefs of a plain, common, indoctorined soldier of the Imperium as well as the Tau. Maybe at the end have him holding out and the planet is invaded and taken by the IoM. Just when he thinks he's rescued he gets "purged" by an Inquisitor as a precaution so he can't spread any "heretical beliefs". In 40K the "good" guys don't have to win.

Ok, this is what i'm thinking, first page:
2 * 3 panes, with some sort of catchup story, half the panes are of the guy chained up in a dank prison, the other half are flashbacks.
second page:
1 * 3 panes, with a tau officer and the spacemarine chatting
third page:
A few panes, the conversation and some action ones of the inquisitor(s?) whuppin' the base above, with the remaining space took up by the space marine saying "ok, I'll fight with you(sic)" and he's unchained.
fourth page:
Chaotic action page with door being kicked in and the space marine being broken out, fighting in the base. Stuff like "For the emperor!"
Fifth page:
Messy battle was over, we get told the other captured marines were found dead in their cells, and that it was odd that this one marine was found unharmed and unchained, and blam, he's killed. End.
That sound decent? Could do with some right-sounding dialogue too really.

Not too sure about it being a marine because:
1) IIRC marines are generally massive fanatics, having been indoctorined from "birth". To even say that he'd fight along side the Tau, even if he's BSing would probably be too much for him.
2) I doubt even the Tau are gullible enough to unchain a marine just because he said he'd fight for them. Maybe instead of them unchaining him, have them be distracted by the approaching battle and they leave him unguarded. He uses his acid saliva (Marine saliva is highly acidic) to get loose from the chains and then have him unleash hell. Unfortunately this may run too close to an already published story (Cloten's past, see next point)
3) If there's a load of dead Tau around him i doubt they'll just shoot him for being unchained and unharmed. In a Bloodquest tie in about Brother Cloten's past, Cloten was found in a Chaos base unchained, slightly hurt (he had been tortured), mad with "the black curse" and feasting on the fallen enemies and he wasn't put down. Marines are quite a valuable resource, each one being recruited from a very small range of people and taking years of preperation and traning before they're ready.
This is why i suggested a normal human instead of a marine as it is much more beleavable that they may turn and they are expendable so more likely to be "put down".
In hindsight the story i suggested seems more apt for a short story/novel than a comic.

Dialogue is easy. Take your typical D&D-type high fantasy language, drop it into a sci-fi universe, darken the tone a bit with lots of quasi-religious references, and sprinkle a touch of latin and voila. I wish I'd seen this thread earlier, but my cookiees jacked up so it appeared as already read. Look at my desktop pic I made a few topics off from this one.Rye wrote:That sound decent? EDIT: I'm not very good with the various Xenos and Chaos, but I can give you just about all the information you'll ever need regarding the Imperium of Man. Drop me a PM or email if you need anything.
