HOT TANK-ON-THING ACTION!!!!!!11111
That's the wrong way to tickle Mary, that's the wrong way to kiss!
Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!
Hooray, pour les français! Farewell, Angleterre!
We didn't know how to tickle Mary, but we learnt how, over there!

In case anyone's wondering, it's a noise suppressor for firing range tests.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, that's a German vehicle in the picture. In Germany, they have postage-stamp firing ranges, with houses nearby. And the neighbors don't like hearing guns go off all the time, so the military has some rather stringent noise regulations that they have to adhere to on the firing ranges.
Bizarre things like this are the natural result.

So basically it's a GIANT 'Silencer' for the tank gun. I'm wondering: Wouldn't everyone still hear the ballistic crack from the tank projectile anyway? I think they fly at Mach 1.5-2 give or take half a Mach (I looked at tank shell schlieren photos and they all have mach wave angles between 30 (M. 2.0) and 45 degrees (M. 1.4).

It looks to me like they have to fire at a given angle. I wonder what happens if you want to fire that gun at a lower angle. From the look of that platform, it seems it's not gonna be easy.
And wouldn't the recoil throw the alignment away? if the shell flies into the walls of that thing, it will look like Looney Toons

Not all Dacians died at Sarmizegetusa
I suppose, but that's still preferable to hearing massive thunder every three minutes.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:So basically it's a GIANT 'Silencer' for the tank gun. I used to live near the Rock Island Arsenal and they would fire off a round of something every work day. I'm not sure what it was but you could hear it from pretty far away and see the burst where it detonated in the air.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.
