Re: A Sequence of Artwork - (teeny paintings p4)
I wonder if you could do art based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld?

I am glad this thread got bumped up as your art is fantastic Pick and I hope you keep going at it. What inspires you mainly, may I ask?

"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

Velkan-sama!

*ahem*
I'm not sure what you were worried about, since it seems to me you can draw space angels people perfectly well. I like your choice of color; makes it look like a bust worthy of his mother's sanitarium.

Hey, nice work you have there. Are you up for some critique, or would you rather me sidle off without saying anything?

You can critique whatever you want, but if I think you're wrong, I'll simply ignore you. It tends to come down to the kind of thing you're talking about; line quality is a useful thing to critique, but style and subject are not. It's something I think non-artists tend to get confused, although I do not know if you are an artist or not. If your problem is that Argus looks like a girl and the other doesn't, then it's nothing something I'm going to worry about.
Sorry if I'm hella brusque but hey, I'm known for being straightforward.

Ah, I see. Just so you know, I am a third year art studio major who frankly, knows what he's talking about and knows the difference between "style" and "issues regarding anatomy." So don't get defensive with me, I'm only trying to help. Now subject matter and style aside (I like your style, by the way), the anatomy of the pointy-eared person on the left is recognizeably humanoid but there are a few errors that are sticking out if you're going for "exact human anatomy". If you're going for exact human anatomy read on, if not feel free to ignore what I'm saying unless I mark it with an asterisk.Pick wrote:You can critique whatever you want, but if I think you're wrong, I'll simply ignore you. The forearm. It appears that it's longer than the upper arm. Move your arm so that your shoulder and wrist meet, just about, and the forearm is a little bit shorter. Here, it appears that it's longer.
*The shading on the hand makes it appear curved- you are showing the hand on a single plane and shading arbitrarily on the bottom makes me think that there's a curve there where it shouldn't be. I know hands are hard to draw, and it's understandable. But it's one of those things that people look at, and if they look the least bit broken, it's distracting. Unless you stylistically intend your character on the left to have doughy, broken hands.
But otherwise, I dig your style and wouldn't knock it. There's just some kinks you might want to work out.

Hey, wow, Pelypely actualy shows up in the story? I sort of vaguely remember him/her getting talked about. The look on Edge's face is priceless.
Also, when Raptor asked you to draw Velkan, did he make the specification of 'absolutely massive pout'?

What is Project Zohar?
Here's to a certain mostly harmless nutcase.

Re: A Sequence of Artwork - (arts p5)
Ah, good. Real critique is much preferred. Thanks.
As it stands, not sure what you mean about the upper arm and lower arm, since the lower arm is significantly shorter.
As for the hand, yeah, not exactly the world's finest. The hand is rotated toward the viewer, but the fingers are pulled in toward the palm (moreso with those furthest from the thumb), hence the heavily shaded fingers appearing smaller.
---
Ford: Pelypely showed up, did her thing, and left about two years ago in real-time. Her introduction was in August 2007, going by file dates. Heck, she hasn't even been Master for the last ... uh, maybe six months? Went to a different character.

I transformed the selection in Photoshop to show your error. Bend your arm like that and see where your wrist meets your shoulder. It's not like this:Pick wrote:Ah, good. Real critique is much preferred. Thanks.

The arm would have to be elongated, and even more so if you wanted to illustrate foreshortening.
Like this:
You may have to alter the torso length to accomodate the correct arm length.
And here's a closeup of the hand to illustrate my point:
I hope you take this as an honest critique and don't take offense to it as many seem to do.
