I'm going to have to go with the entire Gumman "Cat" family, with the Hellcat and Tomcat in the lead.
Side story - that cats will always have a special place in my heart, back at Oshkosh 80 or 81 I think, was still pretty young then., They closed out teh warbird show with a fly by of the cat family doing the missing man fomation. They had a Wildcat, Hellcat, Bearcat, Tigercat, and a Tomcat fly over in V formation at about 200 feet, ceiling was maybe 1000 feet. The Tomcat pulled up, went vertical , punched the throttle, and was gone in the clouds in seconds, very powerful image and memory.
What's the best LOOKING fighter plane ever?
