I collect. When I shoot something, my natural instinct is to get all of it, not some part that'll leave me wondering what the rest of the scene looked like - which is probably why I have series of shots of the same building when it couldn't fit in the frame the first time. I suppose that'd be awesome if I was trying to document burglaries, less so if I want interesting pictures.

If you develop a deep interest in the craft of photography, you'll find yourself habitually trying to make good photos. I always carry a digicam in my camera bag because it gives me "unlimited ammo" for snapshots, but I hardly ever use it these days. Even if you don't give yourself solely to serious attempts at photography and remain an avid snapshooter, once you learn a mindset and approach for serious photos you should be able to go between the two at will.
