I'll bombard you with mails if you like, but basically once a night I'll do an update of what I've done so far. Once we get the shape to a state you're happy with then the rest is all just detailing anyway. Don't worry about the cockpit right now, once I change the nose shape to a more F22 looking thing I'll cut a cockpit in and see how you like it. I'll lose the image map next time so you see it clean, without distraction, and that should clear things up a bit. Next picture update, 5 hours and counting...
Thanks. www.Trillian.cc is an all-in-one IM client with apparently some pretty powerful anti-spam protection that the major IM services it connects to seem to lack.

Anyways, I'll apparently still have Internet up till about Tuesday (the move date got pushed back to Wed. and Thu.), so we can work on this some more. I still wanna keep the small Firefox-ish chisel-point in the nose. I also got an idea for an optional gun-pod mount under the nose too. The landing gear'll be somewhat far back, but it shouldn't be too bad. I'm thinking it'll consist of spherical tires like on this old German Rocket Plane design, or it could simply be landing feet, since the ship has a repulsorlift system. I'm leaning more toward the sphere-tire system myself.

Totally OT, but who was the easiest person you ever modeled a ship for? Just wondering... :)

Nah, I'll stick to e-mail and forums righ now, I tried Trillian ages ago and still had to talk to retards.

There's a wide, slightly raised line under the nose, similar in width to the top flattened area running over the cockpit and nose right now. I planned to use that as a feature and cut in a small chin vent, but it could just as easily house a weapon. Changing the shape of the nose and cockpit might lose this though, I'll see what you think later when I mail you pictures of the changes.

Not sure about the spherical wheels though, I don't see how it's a space saver at all. and if it's got a repulsorlift installed then why bother making it look more like a 20th century aircraft? I think maybe feet like an X-Wing might be more complimentary myself, but it's your shout.

Easiest guy to make stuff for is ME! I dont give a toss and I know what looks best for everything :D Worst would have to be a guy at the ASDB Star Trek group that I occasionally did models for. He used to design his ships as 2 inch long pencil sketches in the corners of writing pads and then moan that you didn't follow his 'plans' closely enough when you showed him what you'd made. Everyone who tried to do stuff for him ended up vowing to forget ever trying again.

Oh ok, Sorry about that wild goose chase then...

Fuck you, anonymous retards!

I'd rather lose it or have it moved a bit farther back under the nose. I was thinking those circles on either side of the nose could be headlights or weapon holes.
Speaking of weapons, these won't be the kind that kill, they'd merely make lots of noise and light, and be designed to make a pretty lightshow when they hit another ship or its deflector-shield bubble, maybe knocking the other ship around a bit at "high" power setting. It'll be the 29th century equivalent of a car horn and squirt gun rolled into one! Of course, the Law-Enforcement version would have multi-mode weapons that do have a kill setting. Probly a micro-missile bay on the underside, too :)

Ah, go with the X-wing landing legs then. They could always house tiny wheels anyway to aid in parking/taxiing in the garage... :)

WTF?! I guess you can see that I'm taking small pains to make it easy for you to get the shape I want. I don't want to be on ASDB Design-A-Ship-On-The-Back-Of-A-Napkin Trek-Guy's end of the spectrum ;) LMAO! Lata and Happy Starship-Modeling!

Thanks again, E! I use MSPaint because it's the tool that I know has the right featureset. You wouldn't believe how many "advanced" gfx proggies make it a fucking ordeal just to cut, copy, flip, paste, etc with the "select" tool! Only knocks against Paint are that it needs a proper spray effect, transparency effects, gradient, and more filetype options. Oh well...

Update on Camaro: I sent an email to Kenny with a threeview of the bow section of the Cammie and a cutaway of the type of engine it uses. Needless to say, the Cammie's gonna need a major rebuild. I might hear from Kenny as soon as today, but don't hold your breath. :D

Now you know why Alan Hart only subscribes to forums full of modelers anyway whereas I, with my easy going nature, stick my head above the battlements. Well, I suppose we had to have this chat sometime, so here goes...

<RANT>
I wish i could say no sometimes, I really do, cos I get about 1 offer a day to model some poor saps latest Trek kitbash or a bloody 3km long Akira class with every conceivable weapon on it. I've taken to just rubber earing them and don't reply, it's kinder in the long run if I leave them the illusion that maybe, just maybe, their mail got lost or I've moved or something. When I explain to them that modelling a Frankenstein-like creation or an uber-fanship is not really my thing, they freak. They can't see why I'm not as excited as they are to have me spend 2 weeks in front of a PC modeling their lovely creation for them.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE making 3D stuff of peoples ideas, it gives me a real kick to see their big puppy eyes fill up when they see it live and breath after only having been a sketch or whatever. It's partly why I do it, and part of it is the challenge to try and make the best of a promising design, and so we all win. But please understand, this 3D lark is anything but simple and is timing consuming in a way few people understand. I come home and if I get the bit between mt teeth I'll be in front of my PC from 6pm till gone 2 in the morning working on a model. Sometimes I just sit for ages rotating it, looking at it from all angles and admiring how it's coming along. How sad is that?

So please, as a personal favour to me, please dont be blown out if I dont agree to make a model for someone on this forum. I've already had to turn one guy down in a PM and it hurts me too. I have 1 film, 3 models and a texturing job on the go right now and time is more than limited now by my day job. By all means let me see what you've got, but unless it's a real stunner I'm not going to be hooked enough to drop everything and run with it. If you're lucky enough to get my attention between models, then chances are I'll make it, but as with so much in life timing is the key! Ask yourself this one question first, "Would I happily spend many hours making this if the roles were reversed?"
</RANT>

Sorry for the quick thread hijack there, thought it best to get it out now before someone gets all pissed off at me. Please please please dont be put off asking me to make stuff, it really is fun, but please dont take it personally if I can't find time to make it for you. sorry again. :oops:

FUCK! My timing stinks! You go and hit me with levity when I'm ill and I hit you with a rant. I suck AND blow (not literally!) at this.

If you want to hire anyone, there's a rather tasty barmaid in the Dreadnought Hotel around the corner called Hazel. Now if she were to look kindly on me, maybe give me a little aid and comfort, that would go a long way to lightening my mood. I'm always in a good mood after a tongue bath. :D

Yeah, you're all blunt and dense :D

The side views really help, just going from a top down drawing is never advisable and you can see how wrong I got it from the first model. I'll begin rebuilding this tomorrow, I don't think I'll be at work so I'll have time to get this redone. It's actually easier now, this body shape is easier to model than the one I came up with. Stay tuned for more developments...
