I know from experience that the bigger spiders, while able to do a quick pounce on occasion, are slower movers in general. Giant tarantulas don't skitter arounda t mach five. But those skinny legged....creatures, like the one in that pic, they DO skitter around at mach five. Occasionally I'd find one of those in my house, in the bathroom most often and they scare the shit out of me and taking them out is really hard. God...imagine those critters crawling up your legs, then onto your face and shoving an ovipositor down your throat!

What is it with Australia and spiders? That abomination, and then the deadliest spider known to man (or at least known to me), the Sydney funnel-web spider.

South America's got deadlier ones. Wandering spider or something, the bite will kill you in minutes.
South America's also got bigger ones. Down in Colombia there are spiders with huge burrows that look like rabbit dens.

It could have been a queen. But are youtruely willing to take that risk considering that Wasps do not have barbs on their stingers and can sting multiple time(unlike honey bees) then there is those nasty mandibles as well.

Blah! That particular species might be stuck in the land down under (hell), but discount versions are all over the world. Like in my house! And they're still nasty. Sometimes they'll hang around near your toilet, and when that happens, I absolutely refuse to take a shit with a spider, I have to call my mom to slaughter it.
While that is a huge fucking Huntsman Spider, it's positively cute compared to the crawling horror that is.......The Australian Mouse Spider!
More hideous than the very similar Sydney Funel Web spider...

Hey, Mike, your 3" wasp might have been something like a Cicada Killer, which are basically like Really Fucking Huge wasps that live in burrows. I think I've seen some occasionally down here, but I don't remember if they get that far North.

Do you know that during mating season, male funnel web spiders crawl all over the place. Sometimes swimming pools are filled with the spiders.
.....OK, never going to Sydney. How many people do those things kill each year, then? Must be in the hundreds. Don't they attack with no provocation and their venom will kill in under an hour?

Yes. Yes I am. I can tell the difference between a wasp and a mimic fly. And mandibles? Feh. What nasty mandibles? They're nothing that can hurt you. I know, I've been bitten (not stung, which fools often refer to as bitten for reasons unknown to me) by wasps and barely felt it. Being pinched hurts more. The jaws are too small to get a grip on you.
And have you ever looked at a paper wasp nest? You can barely tell the difference between the queen and the others; she's certainly not 3" long.

No, and no.
They are agressive, and can bite through your toenail, or boot leather, but they don't attack W/O provocation.
And I don't think that there are any deaths on recent record.
Hmm. I saw a Discovery channel program talking about the Sydney funnel web spider which claimed that there was a serum that worked, but the victim had to get to a hospital within 45 minutes or he was done for, and paralysis would occur in under 10 minutes. That's not true?

That's probably true. But bites aren't that common, methinks. Or else we'd be hearing a lot from it.
And male funnel webs aren't toxic. But during mating season, they'll be in swimming pools, shoes, plant pots, bed rooms and so on. Eeew! They aren't too big but they're still spiders.
