Instead of losing the beard, you could try trimming it to a neat, tight cut and loose the sideburns (and by that I do not mean a Gen-X goat type goatee, but more a Dooku-esque type thing).

I let mine go sometimes, but then I'm not all married and stuff and can get away with it.

Besides, it's amazing how airy it feels after a good trim.

At least you can grow a beard.. I'm 30 and my face still looks like a bar of soap with the occasional pube stuck to it when I try to grow.... :(
