For a Village Idiot, I'd say an image of a Pakled would be good.

Possibly with a superimposed "We search for things that make us go."

For WTPF's or other obvious trolls, the face of the idiot Cave Troll from PJ's Fellowship of the Ring would probably be appropriate.

John Cleese's village idiot? It conveys the point without being too obnoxious. (John Cleese? Obnoxious? Perish the thought!)

Handfulls of mud replacing stars would be a nice touch. (Does the board software allow that?)

Would these pictures be associated like the Senator/Governor/Executor/Emperor ranks, or would they be associated like the longevity stars?
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Some friends of mine did something like that on another site as a joke, but I think it would work in all seriousness here. The only problem is the VIs who have no avatars.

Yeah, but then they'd probably have to keep a handy supply of several ready-made derogatory avatars to avoid the Same Avatar Confusion I mentioned before.

At least, until one gets banned. Then that VI avatar can be recycled and stuck at the back of the queue of future avatar-less VIs.

Perhaps one of the following images with "Village Idiot" at the bottom.

Marcus Aurelius: ...the Swedish S-tank; the exception is made mostly because the Swedes insisted really hard that it is a tank rather than a tank destroyer or assault gun
Ilya Muromets: And now I have this image of a massive, stern-looking Swede staring down a bunch of military nerds. "It's a tank." "Uh, yes Sir. Please don't hurt us."

Or just do the stamp over a transparent background. Those people wouldn't be differentiable by their avatars, but neither were they in the first place.

Zoidberg's too good, we had a regular user with the X-ray avatar and the Homer with glasses av doesn't convey the right impression.
In addition the main suggestion is (As I understand it) to have an image instead of stars, unless someone changes his mind.

From the old Serta commercials.

They all could probably stand to be tweaked a little to be better avatars. I have the original pics if someone really wants to make sheep avatars.

Interesting suggestions, but unfortunately, I can see people using most of these avatars voluntarily, as a form of humour. I'm having trouble imagining a sufficiently insulting avatar that nobody would actually want it.

I think one avatar which no one would actually want would be one those those "ricer" punk pics, showing idiotic-looking adolescents trying to look bad-ass but instead looking astonishingly lame.

Chances are whatever would be appropriate could be used as a form of humor or simply be too graphic for general use on the board.

You could always make something that looks like a highway sign that says "Bansville, Next Exit, 1/4 Mile" as a warning. It would be a constant reminder that that person is on the road out if they don't shape up.

That's for sure. I've used some of the sheep ones briefly myself. Although I was using it in terms of "being a sheep" and not in the redneck way that TYB means. :D

Incidently, is being sheep number 1 a good or bad thing. I mean are you the leader or are you the first one to follow everything? :?:

Perhaps use something from the many "Hey, you're stupid" type pictures. More specifically, the "Don't worry sir, I'm from the Internet!" picture comes to mind. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Here.

You know, I'm having a "so what" moment. Why should the possibility that someone would deliberately choose the "idiot" image disqualify it? Just superimpose some suitable text to designate it as a proper "VI" image, and if someone wants to voluntarily use the same image of stupidity... well... that's their gag.

I can't stop laughing at that. It's not really appropriate, but it IS really really funny. I keep getting reduced to gasps because of the look of the kid's face and the improper grammar of the text.

Oh, I am so reminded of the old idiot who tried to talk about turning on "god mode" in a discussion of real life soldiers.

Perhaps some avatars for these people should be tailored to that person.

For example, if someone starts spouting white supremist crap then they can have a Martin Luther King avatar.

Excellent Idea, Trekkies could have something like a Galaxy exploding (plenty of pictures of that  ), and other idiots could have various other pictures depicting the nature of their idiocy.

I wonder what a good one for "Fundamentalist Moron" would be?

EDIT: This one for idiot Trekkies?
