It's a touch-senstive board that you use a 'pen' on, like a mouse, a la PDA. Allows better control when digitally drawing freehand.
Originally they were an art aid, a peripheral for Macs and PC's. Now though you also get fully Tablet PC's, basically a laptop without the keyboard - everything is accessable through touchscreen and pen, with drives behind the screen and very slimline hinged covers for the screen when you're not using them.

This is... freehand? Not... vectors or any of that?
Completely freehand, well, except the obvious zoom filter on the background. I can't get illustrator to work since i installed it away, (read: don't know how to use it) so i can't do vector if i wanted to, blah.

It would be nice to have one, but from what i gather, so far the only advantage would be letting me work faster (not a magical tool that makes ya better XD), so i really don't need one.. besides, i'm broke and I don't wanna use my parents money >_<

Well it depends on the type you get. Most bog-standard tablets are simply a sensitive surface, which you move the pen across, the actual drawing appearing on your Monitor screen. So the disconnect from having to look up from the blank tablet to see what you've done on the monitor, can be an obstcle for some artists. But there are more sophisticated tablets (getting cheeper all the time) where the picture (and art programme menu's) appear on the tablet surface in real-time allowing it to be treated like a peice of paper (with access to filters and such :) ). It might be worth investing in if you want to pursue an art career later in life.

Of course you might want to ask around in art forums as to what's best an the pro's and coms of the different tablets (I'm just an art appreciator not an artist so can only tell you what I've put together from reading what artists say).

You haven't seen me try to draw with a mouse yet. ><

I am actually a fairly good artist freehand, I just rarely have a chance to experiment with anything.

One of these days I will. But I'm not abandoning my policy of female avs just yet.

AJ, you are, if I may indulge myself in a bit of "elite hacker speak," t3h aw3s0m3.

I like your attention to detail, too. You drew the GC controller very well.
Don't hate; appreciate!
