A lightsaber modeled in Realsoft 3D.
Took a hell of a long time to render.

I see only one move ahead, but it is always the right one.
Nice model but you still got to tweak that shader. Could it be that the bump map is turned up quite high?
The bump is probably a procedural noise map streched in one direction? I´d try reducing the size of this noise map it looks a bit rough.
And i think the color is a bit intense.
The white glow seems too intense.
And the shader of the thing with the text seems a bit bland.
Also it looks like it´s hovering.

Many thanks for the advice. I'm currently working on the gold shader, but I didn't render the new one yet (except a really low-res test). Yeah, the color is way way way too intense. I had the bump map set quite low actually. I was pretty surprised it turned out so rough. I guess I'll set it even lower next time.
Like you said, the thing with the text needs some major work still, though. It was more of an afterthought since I was primarily interested in modeling the lightsaber. I think I'll bevel the sharp edges or maybe rework it entirely when I have time. Lack of environment is also a major issue.
And it is floating. That's why there's that white glow. It's supposed to be a completely unscientific mini upside-down repulsor display or something along those lines. At least I got one thing to look like it was supposed to, lol.
Ah, well, off to see if image textures improve the base any. And thanks again for taking the time to comment. That was an even faster response than I got on the 3d forum.

nice saber, it seems like the models in the old Jedi Academy games. It looks impressive and its golden color is a nice touch.

Golden lightsabre sounds like an award of some sort.
Still, good job with the render. The white is a little intense, though.
