I've just bought this Glaswegian band's latest album "Mr. Beast" on a spur-of-the-moment act and love it. It's short at only 10 tracks and around 43 minutes, and although I already have two of the tracks from another album (the Miami Vice OST had "We're No Here" and the ending of the film has "Auto Rock". The former was also on a recent Torchwood episode and the latter is just brilliant).
Anyone else into these guys? I'd never have heard of them if I wasn't a Michael Mann film fan.

I've heard of them and listened to them a bit. But what i've heard is generally a bit slow for me. Nice chill out music. But not something I'd actively listen too.

Yeah, they're really good, and I've been a fan of them since 2003. "Ten Rapid" and "Young Team" are superb albums. Their BBC session is really worth a listen to as well.
If I can make a suggestion; make sure you listen to their songs "Summer," "New Paths to Helicon (pt 2), and "New paths to Helicon (pt 1).

It is alternative rock, so it's not got a big thumping beat. It's a much more refined, atmospheric collection which I find is good for easy listening. There are a lot of tracks I can imagine suiting any Mann movie because of that, so I know why he chose them for one of his movies while he uses Audioslave for the more rocking stuff.

I think I saw the BBC session disc a few weeks back on offer. I'll try and pick that up, though I'm probably better just getting the previous discography on Play.com come the Xmas and January sales.

In some ways they remind me of sigor ros. The same sort of atmospheric sound. Apparently the genre is "Post-rock" but i hate to organise things into genres.

Aye, there's a nasty habit now of making more and more new obscure genres. I dislike the fact that people refer to Jamiroquai as "acid jazz", for instance. I'd just call it funk, or something related.
The Sigur Ros comparison is true though, but Mogwai tend to have solely instrumental tracks.
