Subway station level

Post by salm »

Here´s a couple of screenshots of an early WiP for a subway station level that i´m making for my current game project.
I hope that i can normal map the holes in the arcs to save polygons.
I really love the impression that the allignment of arcs segments give you.

Sometimes Salm, your work makes me incredibly turned on. That looks as though it would be a damn fine level to play on, if you ask me.

No way in hell you'd be able to normal map that. Parallax map, yes. That'd be perfect for parallax mapping. Without self-occlusion, any attempt to do that with textures will look painfully fake.

WOW!! 8) :D That looks like a futuristic version of the Washington DC Metrorail System. Maybe WMATA should use that in there new metrorail station designs.

I love this one.... cool. 8)

2 questions...

Where do the tracks go, are they on the platform in the center of the station?

Did you use the Washington DC metrorail system as an inspiration for this design?

Yes, i saw a couple of pictures of the WMATA and immediately had to have that. :D

There are two tracks on and two tracks under the platform (outside the station they lead in different directions).

I really hope i can keep the dome like this but after doing some more research it looks like it might kill the framerate.
Eh, gotta do more tests.

Gorgeous architecture, although no subway station in the world as of yet has an elevated center platform such as the one show, for economic reasons. That said, being a major subway enthusiast (www.nycsubway.org was my first love on the Internet), if a station like that was actually built, I would be on Cloud, err make that Platform, 9.

This platform would make a wonderful shooter level. its design is nice. now it jst needs some color, and a randomly apearing train and it would be great.

That looks like it could easily turn into a long range snipe-fest. Not a bad thing, mind you, but all the straight and open areas seem like it'd be good to have everyone on the team grab a sniper rifle and start camping.

Depends on your shooter mechanics of course. But you might want to put some more cover in there for balance's sake. The level looks great no matter what else though. I want to play it even as it is.

That's when you add dust, and make it an old dark beat-up station :)

Or, have trains going by, and each time one comes by, your aim is fouled up.
