Amy Winhouse... Wow!

Has anyone else listened to her and been impressed?

Normally I don't pay much attention to music, especially the trendy stuff that comes out, but I've heard Amy Winehouse's cd a few times and now I want to buy it. She has a good voice. She could probably use some training, but she has "soul" or feeling. Also I love her sort-of-retro sound; if it weren't for her R-rated lyrics I would have thought she was a singer from the 50s.
The lyrics, unfortunately, have a very depressing self-destructive trend. It would almost be emo if the music weren't so catchy.

I especially recommend her songs You Know I'm No Good and Rehab. They're both constantly stuck in my head and my coworker's heads.

Anyway, I wanted to know what everyone else thought about this and if the new-retro sound is going to be a hit or a miss.

Ah yes, one of the current hits to emerge from over here, along with Lilly Alan. I do like some of her stuff, but it is really getting a smidge overplayed at the moment. Especially Rehab.

I don't listen to the radio or watch popular music shows, but I think she has a nice voice. Her music is not something I would download or buy, though. Good luck to her, anyway!

She has a magnificent singing voice and beautiful songs, but I can't really enjoy the work of someone who is self-destructing like her. She doesn't need a hit single, she needs therapy.

Her appearance on NMtB and Amstell pleading her to go into rehab was just sad.
