The New Avril Song?

Is it just me, or does her new song suck ass? She made her hair blonde, and that sucks as well. And, I dunno, it seems like she sold out.
EDIT:
I can't seem to get it out of my head. Oh god the horror. Do they intentionally design these crappy songs to imprint themselves like brain leeches?

Why in the seven hells of musical hell were you even
listening to it?
Go listen to some Amy Winehouse or something.

The wonderful thing about having lots of CDs is that I haven't heard an Avril song in many months now.
BTW, I don't think it's possible for Avril to "sell out" as she was a completely manufactured music personality to begin with.

It could be worse. My 11yo niece just became an AL groupie. I thought I had taught the young one better. Still I did sit her down and go through the lyrics of the abomination Girlfriends poiting out to her it was actually kinda wrong to steal another chicks boyfriend just because she didn't like her. Then I switched her Avril CD for Metallica's S&M.

I fail to note any improvement.

It could have been worse, Avril's version of Metallica's
Fuel.

I thought you were joking, but I did a YouTube search just to be sure.
My god. You're not.

Pop music is a lot like US politics in recent years; the things you hear about both are so ludicrous that you assume it's either satire or outright impossible, and then you find out to your horror that it's all true.

I don't know why you're all so suprised. The original was an appalingly awful song to begin with.

I made the same mistake. For both the metalica and the Avril version. They both suck.

No, it's a fucking great driving song.

No kidding. She needs to smoke about 10 years' worth of cigarettes and eat a bushel of granny smith apples before she can even think about trying to cover Metallica.

Distantly metal-ish music that's essentially 90's arena rock is a complete shit on their legacy of once punishing and anthemic music. This band is dead to me from 1989 onwards.

I guess you've never heard any of their
genuinely fierce songs like Whiplash, Fight Fire With Fire, or Battery.

Why in bloody blue hell is there a thread about Avril Fucking Lavigne on this board? I want to stab her in the face for "Complicated." Punk, my ass. Stupid pop "princess." This is why I listen to synth- and futurepop.

Yeah, I have. All great songs. But "Fuel" is right up there with them.

Yes, when I was working at the movie theatre when it came out, I got to hear it for three fucking months straight.

I think it's absolutely hilarious that someone is wondering whether Avril has sold out now rather than her earlier attempts, which were obviously shitty mainstream sell out material anyway. You might as well ask why Linkin Park or Papa Roach seem to have sold out.

What made it even worse was Hetfield apparently enjoyed her performance of the song.
Hopefully he was jazed about her version of the song because there was some stipulation where he either got an extreme shitload of money, or got to bang the shit out Avril backstage, for agreeing to let her do the song in public. I just hope there was something involved that he thought was worth it.

So who's Avril?
The Canadian teen who thinks she's cool by default and likes to say stupid shit on screen? Big deal, new song? She sucked all day long from the very start.

"Fuel" is a twangy country song being played by an arrogant alt-rock band, and the difference between it and the other songs I mentioned is like the difference between a merry-go-round and a world-class rollercoaster. To each his own, of course, but to suggest that Fuel belongs in the same class as the punishment that the other songs dish out is like suggesting that a hang glider and an F-22 deliver the same caliber of excitement.

The only thing Hetfield got out of it was the reassurance that his band is considered relevant to an audience like Avril's, and that's all that matters to that crook.

*sigh*
If your kid is so adamant about listening to this kind of crap, force-feed her some Freezepop. Nice, addicting synthpop music, except it is subtly and deliberately mocking the entire pop genre.
And if she's into those hideous pop-punk-whatever boy-ish bands, have her listen to Flickerstick. With song titles like 'Chloroform the one that you Love', how can you go wrong?
