Star Destroyer Bump Map

Post by Lord Poe »

I'm trying my hand at bump mapping, and retexturing the older Star Destroyer model available for "Bridge Commander" In this pic, I just replaced the face of the tower only:

Comments? Too much bump-mapping? Not enough?

Still just looks like a texture to me.

What's the original like?

You need to light it so we can see shadows across the bump-mapped face. If it's all in darkness or the light is straight down on it we'll see no shadowing from the bump-map.

That is the original; I just bump-mapped it, and added white lights to replace the yellow ones. THe texture was about as flat as the other surrounding ones.

I'm not in control of the light, unless I point it at a star, I suppose. I'll give that a shot.

A good job, overall, but there are some parts that bump mapping just can't fix, and you need geometry for. The bits in the center, primarily. The bulge in the center which contains the bridge looks warped.

Meh, you need the newer model, the one that's converted from the XWA Upgrade Star Destroyer. I don't know if it's possible to improve its level of awesomeness, though, since it is already composed entirely of concentrated awesome.

That's an ISD1 model though.

True, but the original XWA model, which the old BC ISD was converted from, was used for both. Then again, it also has absolutely zero detail, so using it for both doesn't make much of a difference.

Here's an update. I "turned off" the auxiliary engines. The heavy turbolasers are new but...they're turned toward the ship!
