NORINCO Type 125 155mm Self Propelled Howitzer, Wheeled

The Type 125 is the heaviest vehicle yet on NORINCO's popular Lan Xiong multi-role wheeled chassis; and according to NORINCO, "provides the lightweight expeditionary force with lethal, supportable, mobile fires out to fifty kilometers in a system unmatched by any other."

The turret is also available on the open market, and can be slotted into any vehicle with a turret ring diameter of 3 meters, a hull depth of 1.4 meters, and capable of supporting a turret weight of 11.1 metric tons.

The US Marine Corps have placed an order for 232 of these systems, which will be placed on the new M312 Chassis as part of the Advanced Mobile Expeditionary Fire Support System (AMEFSS), which is expected to enter service in FY 14. They will be produced at NORINCO's Warrenton, Virginia factory.

Specifications

13 m overall length
4.05 m overall width
3.54 m overall height

3 Man crew (Driver, Gun Captain, Gunner) in self contained compartment in bow, with NBC protection and full futuristic force XXI digital communications.

155mm L55 liquid propellant gun, throwing a 55kg shell at 1 km/sec to 50~ km. Ammunition is contained in the turret basket in a 70 round multi-ring carousel magazine which is automatically fed into the automated turret between firing cycles.

Total weight in combat condition is 37.24 metric tons, with a ground pressure of 20.24 PSI on partially inflated tires, and 29.77 PSI on fully inflated tires.

It is powered by a 875 horsepower multi-fuel diesel engine mated to an electric transmission, allowing skid steering; giving it a top speed of 75 MPH on a level paved road. Operating range on said road is 197 miles on 150 gallons of fuel.

The armor is a multi-layered system consisting of several layers of 6mm Titanitium armor and 15mm GRP Fiberglass armor sandwiched together, for optimal protection on minimal weight.

Protection Levels are:
Front Hull: 75mm KE (resistant to 40mm L70 AP)
Side Hull: 37mm KE (Resistant to 20x110mm Hispano)
Rear Hull: 25mm KE (Resistant to 12.7mm HMG)
Top Hull: 39mm KE (Resistant to 20x110mm Hispano)
Floor Hull: 23mm KE (Resistant to 12.7mm HMG)

Front Turret: 48mm KE (Resistant to 20x110mm Hispano)
Side Turret: 48mm KE (Resistant to 20x110mm Hispano)
Rear Turret: 40mm KE (Resistant to 20x110mm Hispano)
Top Turret: 40mm KE (Resistant to 20x110mm Hispano)

NORINCO Type 124 122mm Self Propelled Howitzer, Wheeled

Until recently, the Type 124 was the heaviest vehicle on NORINCO's popular Lan Xiong multi-role wheeled chassis and was the centerpiece of NORINCO's Artillery division; it has since been replaced in that role by the Type 125 155mm system. Overall length is 11.4 meters, some 1.6 meters less than the Type 125; which has allowed it to win a few contracts despite the introduction of the newer Type 125.

The 124 uses the same turret as the 125 (indeed, the 125 is merely a development of the 124); which contains a 122mm L55 liquid propellant gun, which can throw a 26.25kg shell at 1 km/sec to a 50 kilometer range.

Ammunition is contained in the turret basket in a 100 round multi-ring carousel magazine which is automatically fed into the automated turret between firing cycles.

Total weight in combat condition is 35 metric tons, with a ground pressure of 19 PSI on partially inflated tires, and 27.97 PSI on fully inflated tires.

It is powered by a 875 horsepower multi-fuel diesel engine mated to an electric transmission, allowing skid steering; giving it a top speed of 80 MPH on a level paved road. Operating range on said road is 210 miles on 150 gallons of fuel.

The armor is a multi-layered system consisting of several layers of 6mm Titanitium armor and 15mm GRP Fiberglass armor sandwiched together, for optimal protection on minimal weight.

Skid steering? I don’t think that’s goanna work on a wheeled vehicle that long, especially not off-road. Neat looking though, feels like the turret is too big though.

It's not that much bigger than the PzH-2000's turret:

It may be a meter too high; but I decided to put in a lot of room, to allow for high angle fire and to allow the gun to recoil fully at that angle (it has a recoil length of 1.5 meters; which brings the overall gun weight down to 3.66 metric tons with the recoil system; if I decided to use a 600mm recoil system, the gun weight would go up to 4.86 metric tons.

But yeah, there's room for improvements...

Reduced the turret a bit.

Rough internals of the gun.

Pink in back is tranny.
Dark Red is engine
Bright Red is fuel.

The Pinkish thing in the center is the turret ring area; the blue things in it are 155mm rounds.
