I'm trying out some new drawings. Criticism of the constructive kind welcome!

'ere, where's it's gun? Where's it's APC? Where's its power armour?!

Looks very nice Muffin. I imagine you will be adding further detail?

The neck looks a little odd, but I've always liked things with beaks.

Beak looks a bit too peckish, and the upper back of the neck looks too fatty (Unless its supposed to contain a secondary gullet or organs for firebreathing or somesuch).

Apart from that, looks Very good :D

Nice pose. Note that if you want dragons to have any chance of flying via aerodynamics alone, you have to give them fairly huge wings : the same goes for flying humanoids, and sadly the majority of artists cop out of this on the grounds that they don't like the look of it and invoke magic to cover their asses. It's possible that the wings on this are bigger than they look due to the angle, but they could do with some support ribs in any case.

Yes. WE DEMAND A POWER ARMOURED DRAGON WITH BACK-MOUNTED GATLING GUNS.

Wings need more support. Best bet for a reference for drawing dragon wings would be staring at images of bats.

Something is wrong with the spine/ tail and the rear legs. It looks like its legs come up from below some sort of structure, rather than straight off the spine.

yeah, the rear legs need some work. It's really good though.

It's good to see you branch out into new works. Is it possible you may eventually move into people?

Or at least, mind flayers and werechickens. That story could use some illustrations. :)

Yes, I am working on some anatomy studies and will have some examples in the near future.

As for the wings, they are vestigial! the Dragon flys by magic !!!!!!!1111!lol!

Even if that's so your dragon still looks off, since it doesn't explain why it would evolve in such a way to have a similair structure of wing as a bat and lack phalanges.

Hah, I wish. :D

That will be interesting to see. I'm interested to see what you come out with, actually.

I really like it, it's a very good deviation from your normal power armor, and it looks different from typical dragon designs as well :)

The front right foot looks too chunky to me, more like a rock golem arm and as has been mentioned the beak seems a little too bird like to me. However very nice though, especially the pose.

Also it might be nice to have the chest plates run all the way up the neck, although your probably right in leaving them off due to mobility issues that it would create for the dragon.

Looks nice. If you have a cat, look at it for reference. They're basically built the same for bodies.

I've always thought dragons would be more like dinosaurs with a bit of bat.

Name the dinosaur you'd use for reference, then. I'd think they'd be a rather clumsy, clunky thing in comparison. Also, the upside of a cat is he might actually have one easily available. Not so for dinos :P.

Dinosaurs only really work for bipedal dragons and wyverns. Since all quadrupedal dinosaurs were gigantic herbivores, that's not exactly the type of build you'd expect to see in a quadrupedal dragon. Pick's right. For Euro-Western dragons, cats are probably your best choice (you'll change the head and feet, of course). For the flightless Asian dragons, I find that lizards and crocodiles work fine.

Granted.

That said I'd note that a bipedal dragon does make more sense. It can already fly, it doesn't need to run fast to chase prey or escape, and having smaller front limbs makes cramming the wing muscles into the body much more plausible. While there is something to be said for tradition, personally I'd make dragons look like winged theropods.

By far the most awesome and "realistic" dragons ever are the wyverns from Monster Hunter. I can only conclude that most other dragons use their wings for propulsion exclusively (when they're not entirely vestigial), attaining lift through magical means.
