a long range scout/pathfinder design I've made

Well in this thread I said I would focus on scout ship, so this is that design (though I've not been able to give as much time as I would have liked), remember this is a work in progress so all suggestion are welcomed (if constructive ofc).

So what are the projections on either side for? Why are they so long?

It looks like a cross between an Ilrath ship from Star Control 2 and a trident fighter from Ulysses 31. The black paint and red cockpit lighting is actually relatively justifiable, but unfortunately it comes off as a failed attempt to look badass.

you mean the wings by any chance (this is one actually needs those as it's not meant for deep space only)

Presumably but why are they shaped like that? No real-world aircraft has wings like that because (AFAIK) they make no aerodynamic sense, plus they're a structural nightmare, so why have them?

Does it use some sort of anti-grav for atmospheric flight? Seems kinda un-aerodynamic.
