NASHVILLE - Van Halen will announce a 50-date American reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth during a news conference in Hollywood next week, sources said.

The arena trek will begin in early October.

Roth, who split from the rock group in the mid-1980s in hopes of solo stardom, will reunite with co-founders Eddie Van Halen on guitar and brother Alex Van Halen on drums. Eddie’s teenage son Wolfgang will sub for Michael Anthony on bass.

A proposed summer amphitheater tour by the group never got off the ground, with Eddie Van Halen entering a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March.

In the months since, the guitarist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit.

Van Halen last toured in 2004, with Roth’s replacement, vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.
I have seen Van Halen with Dave in concert, and with Sammy in concert. I think Dave is the showman, but Sammy has the better voice. I think the tour will be great, but I don't see them getting back into the studio together.

From the live footage I've seen of Roth on youtube, we better hope that a) he isn't drunk and b) he remembers the lyrics. Otherwise, this sounds good.

This is terribly exciting. I hope they make a few stops up north (considering Calgary's population and the numbers of concerts in the past few years, I'm hopeful).

You guys should all come to Cali and we'll catch 'em in LA or San Jose.

Then...TO THE GOOMBAMOBILE!

Haha I wonder what would take longer, another band split, or my Civic to get out to LA?

I'll wait for reactions from the first concert dates. I somehow doubt Roth has any of his former chops, vocal or otherwise.

Eddie and David Lee Roth getting along long enough for a tour? Right. I'll believe it when they do it.

In Eddie's defense, David Lee Roth is probably THE single most annoying human to walk the Earth. He's like Gilbert Gottfried, Andy Dick, and Tom Green wrapped into one. I can't blame the guy.

Eh, Van Halen has always been good, but they sound pretty dated these days. Their albums are like the eighties incarnate.

Oooh, Toronto is their fourth stop. Hopefully they won't have already had their inevitable falling-out by then ;)

They should be able to make four stops at least.

I'm 20th on the list and AFTER L.A.. I think the tour will be up the nose and down the hatch by then, but I have my fingers and toes crossed. :D

I just learned that tickets are going for $170 just for nosebleeders. There's no fucking chance in hell I'll shell out that kind of money to watch Diamond Dave sputter and flounder. Judas Priest had the consideration to charge a decent $60 for their reunion.

Everybody make them feel really special and maybe they'll do a few dates down here... Please?
