RAR Music What If

Post by Lord Pounder »

Put this here because it is a what if pertaining to music. What would happen if John Lennon didn't get murdered? Even years later Beatles Anthologies sell as well as new artists.

Most 60s/70s/80s stuff sells for a higher price than today's bollocks. It's not just the Beatles! :)

Well, with Yoko still in the picture nothing. With her around I think his genius is parlayed into her crappy projects. We might get a few gems here and there, but that would be it.
The rest of the Beatles just go along as they did.

I think that during the 80's the Beatles would reunite and rap and grunge would never happen. Guitar driven pop would reign supreem and 50 Cent would still be selling drugs.

Rap came around independently of whatever the Beatles were or were not doing.
Grunge was direct recoil response to the cock rock of the mid-late 80's and an underground descendant of the original punk movement, which itself was a response to the glam and humongous stadium shows of the 70.
Lennon was killed in 1980. Rap was already well under way and the original punk movement was already over.
There probably wouldn't have been a Beatles reunion until the late 80s or early 90s.

I think it's safe to say that there would have been a reunion eventually, even if just for a one-off show here and there. Concerts like Live Aid would have been a huge pull for them; The Who and Led Zeppelin had a number of one-offs at shows like these.

As to anything larger, I won't even hazard a guess, except that unless there had been a complete reunion with a new album and such like, music would have progressed more or less like it has.

I would've liked it had he got really really pissed off with Yoko and then collaborated with Trent Reznor to get out all his angst and fury. That could've been fantastic. As for what probably would happen; that would probably release progressively worse albums then do a reunion tour with the beatles. That's what everyone else does and it's lucrative. He'd probably also be involved with Bob Geldof's stuff, the wily tramp!

I can imagine they'd have had more kids, and they'd be musically talented.

He could have mentored alot of musicians, and might have been a massive improving force on modern music.

I can also see him replacing Simon Powell on American Idol....

Sean Lennon might not seem quite so fucked up.

Julian Lennon might have had a longer, more significant career.

Maybe Paul wouldn't have married Heather Mills after Linda died.

I could see him going the Bono route and trying to better humanity and all, but with more clout and without the sunglasses.

Just those little "Lennon" sun glasses. Maybe of a blue, purple or rose color. :)

I don't want to sound like a complete asshole, but what if Yoko had taken his place? What then?
