Or just enjoy this link. It's a nice overview of how they got such amazing effects that are so important for such a picture. I remember a similar piece on ILM's techniques for WOTW in 2005 which showed how challenging it was just to make tripods come out of the ground. Transforming robots is the perfecting of such integrated CGI.

After I saw the movie, I was thinking how cool it would be if there was an extra on the eventual DVD that lets the viewer play with animations of each of the Transformer characters transforming back and forth, at different speeds. I'd love to get a long, careful look at the process, slowed down.

After reading this, I'm hoping even more that such an extra might be available!

There's an extra to see the actual models used, but it's only available in HD.

Another example to get fluid, and believable animations, the ILM animators filmed each other rollerblading in the parking garage. This reference footage was used as a base for Bonecrusher’s highway sequence.
I bet the only reason this bit was put in the movie at all was to give the animators an excuse to goof off and rollerblade while they should be working.

Still, maybe they'll have something similar on the normal DVDs. I imagine loading these things up in Lightwave or Blender would crash a fair few PCs. :P

At least HD users will be catered to, damn their souls! An extra like that just screams to be included with the movie. Anyway, I have my DVD and score soundtrack CD preordered. They are both due out next month, I believe.

Indeed. I can't believe they didn't bring the score out first, instead, we get that lovely compilation of completely-unrelated-pop-music-trying-to-boost-reputation crap. The only track of which I care for being the Linkin Park one used in the trailer and ending to the movie, which I already bloody have.

Hooray for Steve Jablonsky though.
