Annoying Star Trek Battle Videos

Post by Lord Poe »

Can someone tell me WHY virtually every Star Trek battle video on Youtube uses this music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCm70favfYI

From the description on the right hand side, its called, "Lux Aeterna" from the movie, "Requiem for a Dream".

Is this some kind of new battle hymn for permavirgins or something?

Wow. I love how Sisko and his crew react to the enemy fleet with dull surprise. Also, do Star Trek fans really find these battles exciting? They seem pretty blah.

Probably because that particular rendition of the song was used in the theatrical trailer and TV advertisements for The Two Towers, and back then sort of everybody went nuts over it.

It's actually a pretty cool song, but a lot of talentless hacks use it to try and add drama and a sense of the epic to their videos which lack both, and it just results in crap. :?

Oh have I mentioned... OMG stupid space battle tactics! Hurray!

Incidentally, this pompous score also proves just how awesome Monty Python is... by making it even funnier.

The O Fortuna movement from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana or Holst's Mars, the bringer of war both kick Lux Aeterna's ass, and they were both worn out (in film) long, long ago :D

It's not limited to Trek videos; any remotely-epic sounding generic trailer bullshit gets pasted onto any remotely-exciting battle footage/love story/whatever from any fad shows those permavirgins can get their cheetos-stained fingers on. Often with really crappy image quality and poor editing.

It's a sign of the times, really.

Someone should take a battle scene like that and put it to "Born Slippy". It would be a huge improvement, and totally ironic...

It's so fucking overused it annoys me to hear it now. As an example, SkySports in the UK has it constantly on when it returns from the adverts.

Yeah, I realized that when watching Trekmiss. Let's see, don't the Jem Hadar have bridges without viewscreens, where only the captain has a HUD? Maybe it would help to give the gunners some visual feedback too.

I'm so beyond sick of theme...

Plus, the original music that was scored with was pretty good in its own right.

I wish "Prelude to War" from nBSG would be used as often, it's a much better and more omnious "battle theme".

But I always imagine Viscounts vs. Executors for it, instead of BSG warships. :P

It's the same thing with virtually any fan made "music" video. Do you have any idea how many talentless hacks use Evanescence for AMVs?

Too many?

As for the OP, here is the original Lux Aeterna which I personally find more interesting after having heard the Lord of the Rings version a million fucking times.

The original score from the film Requiem For a Dream is considerably better than the 'epic' one in my opinion. As Rawtooth said it's much more interesting and much less overused, did you know they used the promo version on BBC news when they were talking about troop deployments before the invasion of Iraq?

Slightly off-topic, I like how the Federation apparently organises Defiant, Excelsior, Galaxy, and Miranda(!)-class ships into a single squadron :)
