Need inspiration for GalCiv ship designs

Post by Stark »

I'm trying to make some Cybermen ships for GalCiv2. There isn't much informatin about Cyberman ships: they're either saucers or cigars and their smaller ships just look like boxes with flanges.

Since I've already made Dalek ships

I want to use cigars, and zeppelin themed ones since Pete's World is big on zeppelins. I'm limited to the shapes contained in Galciv2, so I'm having to be pretty imaginative.

Based on the smaller ships seen in the 80s, I made this flying space container for a 5-6 cyberman ship.

For larger business, I found a way to make zeppelin-like shapes.

In this last image you can see I'm experimenting with ways to tart up the basic shape: I've added a belt of armour, but I can't put a matching ring on the rear because they don't quite line up and I'll have to painstakingly rotate the objects until they do and I can't be stuffed.

I'm curious about ideas for terminating the zeppelin shape - they're made out of eight giant warp nacelles, and the 'nose' has horrible clipping so I've put the penis thing on each end in the above example. I'm probably going to use this for the medium, large and huge ship types, so I'll need a way to demonstrate scale (like little details I can add to the smaller ones to make them seem smaller etc).

I'm open to suggestions because I'm not very creative. Also, please bear in mind that I'm making templates so I can't include functional elements like guns, engines, etc. The AI will add those itself when using the templates to make specific designs.[/img]

I've built enough ships to fill the style sheet, so the AI can at least look like Cybermen when they're using them. I'm not 100% on how to differentiate scale (since the increasing sizes are automatically larger ingame), so I tried to make the larger ones look less detailed and more 'chunky'.

The smallest zeppelin is now long and relatively streamlined: some have awesome Flash Gordon fins, too.

The largest zeppelin has a thick belt of armour, different nose detail, and new engine section. I left the cigar-shape itself quite chunky, making it less streamlined and smooth than the smaller one to hopefully give the impression of size.

I'm not sure about the jump from 'flying shipping container' to 'awesome zeppelins' at the moment, but that's what the Cybermen apparently do in the show so I won't lose any sleep over it. I'm going to play a game as the Cybermen versus the Daleks, so hopefully I'll be able to get some more dynamic images.
