I'm assuming the picture was taken from a probe and not from Earth.

We've got a spacecraft there, ya know.
What's even more amazing (an added bonus, like eating an ice cream sundae and finding money at the bottom) is that you can see Earth in the picture. The article points out the little spot of light that is our pale blue dot.

It's a picture of the night side of Saturn taken by the Cassini probe. The sun is directly behind Saturn in that picture, but the light from it is being reflected and refracted by the rings.
