France and Monaco

So, anyways, I've spent the last week in France for MIPCOM, and I have pics to prove it!
Unfortunately, not many, since I was kinda busy. Not a single shot of the Palais de Festivals, alas; or the Croisette for matter. So, it's mostly Monaco, where we went on the last day.
A street in Cannes where all the good restaurants are
And a really nice police station
Anyways, on Tuesday night, all the big Ukrainian channels threw a ginormous party at the Majestic beachfront. There were horilka shots and salo-on-pickle appetizers, as well as varenniki and holubtsi. And lots of drunken TV execs.
There were also fireworks, sponsored by Film UA

They also brought this Ukrainian singer called Lama to perform at the party. She's supposedly a big thing in the Ukraine, and a google search tells me she got the Best Ukrainian act award of MTV Europe Music Awards. Yay?

Yes, that's me.
There were also the finalists of the Ukrainian Star Academy (US grots think American Idol) there.

All my life, I've been an enemy of lyp-synching. Guess what I had to resort to here since I didn't know the words?

There was also this guy. I don't know what's his deal, but I think he was enjoying the whole thing waaay too much, and that drugs were involved there somewhere.

Stereotypically Gay TV execs? Impossible!
Anyways, on to Monaco
Some French countryside enroute
Monte Carlo is a really pretty place, I liked it a lot
You can't really see it well in that pic, but there's TWO identical red Ferraris there
The Casino
More Casino and the Hotel de Paris
The Casino entrance
They're really strict about no cameras inside it, so this is the best shot of the interior I've been able to take
The Hotel de Paris
Inside the hotel.
The restaurant inside. Dinner, anyone?
A triumph of European automotive engineering
More pretty houses
In case you dudn't know, Monte Carlo is largely vertical. They even have elevators as mass transit!
Bridges!
The harbor, with pretty yachts
Speaking of yachts, check out the one on the right.
It's a cruise ship! It's a ferry!
It's the Lady Moura, the 11th largest private yacht in the world. Owned by Nasser al-Rashid of Saudi Arabia.
That nametag is solid 24 carat gold, by the way. Now, storytime. We got lost and ended up in the marina, when we had a close encounter with this monster of a boat. The "security" conisted of a guy sitting in the door, preventing anyone from actually getting on. There was nothing preventing us from driving our Ford Ka laden with explosives into the side, had we wanted to.
The Lady Moura, and the "little" yacht to the left of it you can see in the first pic
Monte Carlo at night
The Oceanography museum looking dark and gloomy
Now, the French can surrender to the Polar Bears, too!
Anyways, as they say, that's all, folks!
Have a very nice day.
