Your First Music Album (Record/Tape/CD/MP3) Purchase

Not interested in singles! What was the first album you bought (fill in for the appropriate media, of course)?

The first album on CD I ever bought was the 2-disc Delicate Sound Of Thunder Live CD by Pink Floyd from 1988. I still have it (as well as the first CD player I owned). I probably haven't played it in 5 years (not counting rips to various computers I've owned).

(Edit: Hope this is okay here, given the music topic!)

Classic Queen on CD when Wayne's World came out, so that would be sometime in 1992. I also picked up Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I by Guns n' Roses at the same time, they all still get regular play on my stereo system.

First cassette tape I bought was Metallica's ...And Justice For All when it released in 1988. First CD I bought was either the Wayne's World soundtrack or Monty Python Sings, can't remember which.

Joint purchases also count :D:
Grieg: Peer Gynt or "Classic Beethoven" on cassete tape. I was just a baby (I remembered it from the crib), I think I was around 5-6 I think so, 1993 give or take.

The Fat of the Land by The Prodigy. Still one of the best albums ever made, in my opinion.

First CD: I think it was Queen: It's a Kind of Magic. I might have purchased another CD at the same time but I don't remember what it was. I'd just got a component CD player for my birthday and high school graduation. Up until that time no one in my house had had a CD player. It still sounds better than all the super cheap crap that's out these days.

First cassette for myself: The soundtrack for Conan the Barbarian. I couldn't find it on CD for ages.

Normally in my house we'd by the vinyl record and then record that to cassette for general use. Then when the tape wore out or got eaten in the tape player we'd just record it again. Plus it helped save wear and tear on the records. I wore grooves in Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band because I played it so often when I was a kid.

Many albums were purchased for me when I was younger by friends and family but the first album I actually bought was TOOL's "Lateralus".

First CD: I bought Ozzmosis and We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll on the same day.

First Cassette: Likely the music from Carl Sagan's series Cosmos or Holst's The Planets, it was quite a while ago.

Honestly, I can't remember my first album purchase. However, I am positive it was on vinyl as I pre-date the CD by considerable years and it may have even been before cassette tapes were a common item (never bought many of those anyhow).

Yeah. I still listen to a couple tracks to this day. 'Be Careful (Cuidado Con Mi Corazón)' with Madonna is one of my favourite songs, and the '98 World Cup song, Cup of Life, was a favourite back in the day.

Shortly after, I bought almost all of 2Pac's discography. I finally completed it (excluding the recent releases because they suck, but I still have that horrible Loyal to the Game album) recently when I picked up 2Pacalypse Now and Strictly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z. with a gift card from my birthday for HMV. First discography I started, last one (for now) I finished.

Crossing the Rubicon by The Sounds. Bought and downloaded it 10th June 2009. It's the only album I've bought. Ever. I own two other albums: Pulp Fiction Soundtrack and some CD with a bunch of sci-fi themes and tunes, performed by the Boston Pops and John Williams.

My music library consists mainly of MIDI and free game soundtracks (like SimCity 3000)...
