Memnon + Art = No 56k

Alright, I've been encouraged to post my stuff here, so here goes.
Most of the time, I use D&D and DH as inspiration, hoping to branch off that soon.
This is my cleric for our D&D game.
This is my friend's warforged fighter:
Some doodles, including the most badass backpack ever
a warlord I've been toying with playing
cookies if you guess the model for the face of this one!
my friend's ranger.

Cleric looks a bit like he is wearing a mask, but I like the gear theme he has going. I like the stylized look of the warforged, like it came off a temple wall somewhere. I like the backpack.
Is that a breastplate and underwear? Odd combo, generally I see full clothing/armor or the chain mail bikini. Did she forget her pants? To many blows to the head?
Dual wielding a sword and flail? Don't think I've ever seen that combo before.

Thanks, the cleric is supposed to be very erathis-y. I think the mask like look might come from everything using the same pen thickness.
The backstory of the warforged is that it was essentially in a lord's cellar, deactivated, after the last war. I spent a lot of time shading/figuring out that one, that's for sure.
I like the backpack too XD
The warlord - I didn't shade it... but the part between the leather armor and the leggings is supposed to be black cloth.
I do see where you're coming from, though. I might make the leggings much higher.
And the ranger - well, my friend decided to get those for some reason XD

Edited and shaded: you may want to look at it from an angle, as my scanner makes pictures a lot lighter than they are.

hmm a bit less skin tight with pants would help or maybe add leather/mail "skirt" it just looks wierd atm, also is that suppose to male or female, most of the body says female but imho the crotch bulge is a bit too large for a female (not much, but still)
also, the leggings weren't too low on the first picture tbh, it was just that the cloth portion was so skin tight it was impossible tell it wasn't suppose to be skin.

The hands and fingers look a bit off and are you sure that shoulder armor works like that? I'd think there would be protection of the forearms and the armpit area in order to prevent someone from disarming you.

Hm . The original idea was to have a kind of one-piece suit on top of which the rest of the armor would be layered onto. I kinda see where you're coming from in the crotch department and I'll see if I can fix that (probably just deemphasizing the lines). And I raised the leggings to make it a bit more balanced.

Hm. The dangling part of the shoulder armor is actually leather - I think I need to change it to look more like leather though. That way there's a modicum of protection, but also mobility. This armor is supposed to be more mobile than protective. Also, good point about forearms - I'll draw gloves or bracers.
As for the hands and fingers - I used both mine and a girl I know's hands to draw them, so they may look a little weird. Not sure what I can do to fix them.
EDIT: Heck, it can be cloth. I can't figure out a way to make it look like leather without totally redoing it. So, there's armor underneath that.

Okay, here's the newest edit:
added more shading and bracers.
EDIT: I think the scanner is making things stretched laterally :S
EDIT2: Moved the image, not sure which one it is >_>

Anatomy is a bit off. Overpaint shows.

Hm. Apparently everybody likes to criticize the crotch area XD
I'll see what I can do.
EDIT: whipped this up in Paint, tell me what you think before I do this for reals.

Well, I got kinda bored and decided to experiment with coloring in MS Paint:
First I used a black background, and pasted the drawing on with draw opaque off.
Then I cleaned it up and inversed the colors, and filled in some color.
EDIT: Moved the image, not sure which one it is >_>

Do yourself a favor and use
at least GIMP, if you don't have access to Photoshop.

I've been meaning to learn how to use one of those, but I haven't had the time until recently.

Get Paint.NET. It's very similar to Paint, and it's very simple to use.

Alright, I've started attempting to use GIMP.
I traced the lineart with pen and scanned it, and started putting in colors in layers - however, I still get white pixels around the pen lines.
Any suggestions on how to fix that?
Here's the current picture.
I ended up deciding not to do the black layer, because that would be adding another color to the mix.

Create an opaque layer (layer: new layer), the color being white. Move that layer to the bottom (layer: stack: layer to bottom). Select your top layer (layer: stack: select top layer). Set color to alpha white (layer: transparency: color to alpha). Select your bottom layer (layer: stack: select bottom layer). Paint your color on that layer. This will preserve your lines while you paint.

Oops, didn't see your post. Anyways, I'll probably do that the next time I color something.
Here's the (touched up) flat color version:
Now I need to:
1) apply shadows and highlights
2) do the hair.
Sounds fun.

did he forgot pants again?
also are her eye balls suppose to be the same color as her skin?

well, I decided not to add the under-armor weave because of color balance - unless I make it grey. Now there's an idea I might use...
And yeah, I was going to change the eye balls later, after I figure out how to un-flatten the armor.

well I would change the color of the armor to dark brown (it's suppose to be leather right?) and use that color for the under armor stuff but that's just my opinion. Granted I'd move the seam for the crotch armor to the side from the front (no offence but as it is a looks a bit stupid, especially without the under armor stuff.) gray might work too, maybe scale armor for added protection for example.

It's certainly possible to make the leather leather-colored, but why limit it like that? After all, leather gets dyed all the time. Usually not blue, but you get the point.
The 'crotch armor' is really more of a one-piece swimming suit shape, but is covered by the breastplate up top. It's an interesting idea to move the seam, I'll think about it.
And the type of armor was determined by D&D rules when I was rolling it - it's a taclord. *shrug*
Been putting off shading and highlights by thinking more about the color scheme - particularly eyes, hair, and choker. Right now I'm leaning towards yellow eyes and black/silver hair, but other suggestions would be welcome. (brown hair/green eyes is a good combination too, for example). I may experiment with that soon.

Thanks :D
A lot of thought went into the design of the armor of these guys (except the ranger, lol).
I'll be posting more soon!
Also, RE: Feil: I double checked my proportions.
By using the ratio of head length to neck-to-crotch length, I obtained these ratios:
my drawing: .40796
the person whose face I referenced: .38174
Now, taking into consideration that I'm not perfect with GIMP's Measure tool, I'd say that's a pretty good match for proportions :DD

Woot, I'm done (I think) with shading and highlighting the armor!
I'm not too satisfied with the grey armor, but the blue looks great imo.
Up next is the face/hair... *gulp*

the current colors look a bit cold to me (I keep thinking snowy mountains or glaciers in the backround), if that's was where you where aiming then it's looking really nice (I still don't like the lack of pants but then it's just personal I dislike fanservicy outfits like that), but if weren't aiming for "cold" look I'd add a small amount of a "warmer" color (like red or green (yellow works too if you can make it work (like a gold trim to the armor/weapon) or brown) to the outfit but then that's just an suggestion, looking really nice.
