MS Paint?
EDIT EDIT: Please move to correct sub-forum if this isn't in the correct one.
Since it's something I've always had, from time to time I've messed around with doing stuff in MS Paint. I like having the accuracy, and it's challenging, but in a good way. Any of you folks use it at all?
Some of the better stuff I've done:
(4chan alert)
I've seen some freakin' amazing stuff done in MS Paint online though. I think there's a video on youtube of a guy painting a nearly perfect recreation of the Mona Lisa over several hours (time lapsed, obviously).

A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Re: MS Paint?
Very nice. Shading is impressive all round, as is the attention to detail in general.
The Assault Rifle looks like the bastard Child of the Sig 550 and the HK416 (not a bad thing). The magazine looks closer to one of the 20 rounders the Swiss use than to a 30 rounder. Was that deliberate?
If the tank is a WiP, have you considered replacing the 50 cal on top with some kind of remote weapon station, ala CROWS? Also, is that a Quick Kill I spy behind the hatch?

The design influence is clearly russian, which would make that a 12.7mm utes or a 14.5mm
Re: MS Paint?
All the same, remote weapons stations seem to be a no brainer if you can afford to put them in.

Doctrinally the russians [and the europeans for that matter] don't really expect the CO to use their MG much; time on the MG is time not commanding. Besides in a high intensity fulda gap style armoured warfare situation an RWS [really only useful against infantry] is just pointless cost and weight.

What does this SQUAWKy one involve, praytell?
Yeah, you're right. It might detract from their performance in all those high intensity conflicts they take part in on a regular basis against technologically and numerically comparable foes.Doctrinally the russians [and the europeans for that matter] don't really expect the CO to use their MG much; time on the MG is time not commanding. Re: MS Paint?
Oh dear. That's a lot of replies. Certainly more than my thread here ever managed. Oh, and adam_grif, I forgot to say that your stuff was really quite good. Not the same sort of stuff I do, but not bad nonetheless. Anyways, taking the replies in order...
The HMG is actually based as much as possible on the BRG-15, which was a 15.5 x 115 HMG developed as a replacement for the good old M2HB. Unfortunately, there are a grand total of two pictures of the BRG-15 on the internet, so a lot of the details were borrowed from the good old .50 cal.
I guess so. The magazine is larger to accommodate larger rounds than 5.56, so I guess it would need to be longer to have 30 rounds.adam_grif wrote:The Assault Rifle looks like the bastard Child of the Sig 550 and the HK416 (not a bad thing). If you look at the M1A2 TUSK, you'll note that the mounting is actually between the commander's hatch and the gunner's hatch. So I guess I'll just say that the mounting is there. This is supposed to be the stock version, anyways. The APS is really pretty generic, but it's not really based off VLS types like Quick Kill. I was thinking of the israeli Iron Fist when I drew it, but this has more shots.adam_grif wrote:If the tank is a WiP, have you considered replacing the 50 cal on top with some kind of remote weapon station, ala CROWS? The design influence wasn't really russian, although I can see where you would think that. The skirts and the armored bit that moves with the gun were both based off the up-armored Leopard C2. The actual turret shape was based off the South Korean K2 MBT, and the suspension (lulzy coilsprings FTW) was based off the Merkava. The whole thing was in large part inspired by the fictional MCA-7M tank drawn by the artist Sumer.JointStrikeFighter wrote:The design influence is clearly russian, which would make that a 12.7mm utes or a 14.5mm

Considering what this is for (I did say original, didn't I), there is a large chance this already fairly beastly tank will be going up against technologically and numerically superior foes.adam_grif wrote:Yeah, you're right. Re: MS Paint?
I went picture hunting for TROPHY and IRON FIST when I first saw the design but it didn't really seem to look like either of those systems, so I guessed at Quick Kill. Now that you mention it, I can see how it would be a 6 round version of IF.The APS is really pretty generic, but it's not really based off VLS types like Quick Kill. Is it for use in some kind of fictional universe then?
By the by, it looks like a standard 120 smoothebore, but I can't really judge diameter accurately from that picture. What is it?

Oh man, we can't have anything that weak. It would simply be uncompetitive! It's a 135mm L44 ETC smooth bore cannon, for maximum hitting power. Can't fit as much ammo though, which is the downside when you're talking about rounds that big.adam_grif wrote:By the by, it looks like a standard 120 smoothebore, but I can't really judge diameter accurately from that picture. Re: MS Paint?
Fine, scale the railgun up to 135mm but with the same power generation capabilities, then have it fire APFSDS rounds like conventional guns.

And you're still left with with a weapon that is more complex, more expensive, less reliable, and probably takes up more space than a conventional cannon. For what is likely to be a marginal increase in stopping power.
