no I can't hear Stealer's Wheel, without thinking about Mr. Blonde torturing that cop, I can't hear singing in the rain, without Alex DeLarge and his goons committing a horrific rape, I can't hear Ride of the Valkiries without thinking about Huey Gunships and surfing.

Maybe it doesn't count, but "The Century of Warfare" on the History Channel used the prelude from Wagner's Lohengrin as the title music, accompanied with scenes from World War II, most notably dam busters dropping bombs from Lancaster (I think) bombers. Accompanying a laconic knight riding a boat pulled by swans the music seems a little absurd, but it's extremely moving when thinking of all the futile and heroic things people of previous generations did in their great wars. I always get a little replay of the opening scenes of that show in my mind when I hear it.

Off the top of my head now:

• Spybreak! by Propellerheads: The Matrix lobby scene made this song awesome, and then it fell out of grace and now I can't bear to listen to it.
• Atomic by Blondie: Thanks to Trainspotting, this is and will forever be an awesome song to have sex to.
• The Lion Sleeps Tonigh by The Tokens: Thanks to Ace Ventura 2, I always associate this song with Gorilla RAPE!

And, of course....

• Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss: I challenge anyone to not think of screaming monkeys and black monoliths when listening to this one!

I can't stand any music from Rob Zombie ever since his piece of shit movie House of a Thousand Corpses.

I'll never be able to hear "We'll Meet Again" without thinking of Dr. Strangelove.

I associate it far more with the iconic line up of the earth, moon and sun. And thanks to Samurai Champloo, bald men.

On the Beautiful Blue Danube by Johan Strauss -- The space plane flying to and docking with the space station in 2001: A Space Odessy. I love that scene and almost always think of it when I hear that music. Either that or I think of the Simpsons episode where Homer becomes an astronaut and has a floating potato chip "dock" with his mouth to the same music.


Open Arms by Journey -- Ever since Heavy Metal used that song while the cabbie was getting it on with the girl that's what pops into my head when I hear this song. It's a shame this was the song my sister and her husband chose as their song at their wedding. That they had my cousin sing it and totally butcher the song is even better.


O Fortuna from Carmun Buranda by Carl Orff -- I usually think of the scene in Excalibur when the last few Knights of the Round Table come back together and ride out to face Mordred's forces. They are in full armor, on horseback ridding through an orchard of fruit tress in full bloom, returned to life because Percival had brought the Holy Grail to Arthur and healed him ("The King and the land are one".)

First a nitpick, its Carmina Burana as in the medieval work "Carmina Burana".
Then I thought that it was the scene with the black armored knights with torches early on that had o fortuna track?

Ever since seeing "Forrest Gump", I can't hear CCR's "Fortunate Son" without thinking of the deployment scene. Of course, the song was totally appropriate in that context and was always meant to evoke Vietnam, but now it makes me think specifically of Forrest Gump in Vietnam.

Ever since seeing "Harold and Kumar", I can't hear "Crazy On You" by Heart without thinking of Kumar's bizarre marijuana bag love fantasy. On a related note, I can't hear "Hold On For One More Day" by Wilson Phillips on the radio without also thinking of the hilarious driving scene when both Harold and Kumar can't hold back any longer and break out into song.

I remember they did a commercial once for Black Hawk Down where they used that Dave Matthews' song "The Space Between" (even though the subject of the song has pretty much nothing in common with the movie). Now, whenever I heard that song, I automatically think of "Black Hawk Down".

"Back in Black" by ACDC makes me think of the movie Iron-Man whenever I hear it.

TV show for me:

Song: Sara Mclaughlin's "Winter Years" (I believe that's the title)
TV Show/Episode: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 2 finale. She just lost her friends (school), her mother ("If you walk out that door.."), and then sent her lover to hell (literally). She just starts to cry, and then leaves.

So bad.

Oh, and I agree with Mike 100% about Fortune's Son and Forrest Gump.

Austin Powers: The Spy who shagged me. Whenever I hear American Woman, I think of Heather Graham's intro. (Followed by the Dr. Evil chick that just wouldn't die!)

I hear this. It's funny that someone already mentioned Along the Watchtower, because thhe Hendrix version of the song I always associate with the patrol montage from Gump. It actually became a running joke with a few other friends; we used to swim and play cricket at this beach which was bisected by the mouth of a narrow but waist-deep river. We'd wade through it, with our bags and cricket bats and whatever over our heads, singing the main riff from the song.

That was the Funeral March from Gotterdammerung by Wagner in the opening scene of Excalibur.

Watchmen had a surprising amount of licensed music, but now "All Along The Watchtower" and "The Sound of Silence" always evoke fond memories. By contrast, the godawful sex scene has totally ruined Hallelujah and all of its cover versions.

Now for a reverse case; a song that forever changed (some) movies for me:

You need a montage from Team America: World Police. Every time I see a stereotypical montage scene with a fadeout at the end, I remember the words of that song. And they're right of course: the standard montage is a cheesy technique.

Hot Rod has now forever associated You're the Voice with random downtown riots.

I used to be quite indifferent to Take That, but ever since I saw Stardust with my partner their song Rule The World holds a special place in my heart.

CCR's version of Susie Q makes me think of the scene in Apocalypse Now where the Playboy Bunnies are doing their show. Especially the one dressed as a cowgirl, shooting her guns.
