Well, I still have that terrible Squier that I started with. It's got some rust around the jack now which for some reason makes me like it more.
A while back I got an Ibanez, although to be honest I don't remember anything more specific than that. It was just one of those things where I picked it up in the store and went "holy shit, this is my guitar." I should get back to practicing, I kinda lost all my motivation when I moved.

honestly those squiers are solid like a brick house for the money and the intended market (south korean ones with basswood body that come in the box with the little peavey raptor amp correct?)
like in many ways they're not appreciably worse than an honest to goodness strat and you can get a lot of miles out of them
fuck i need another guitar

Get a Les Paul. You will never regret it. Best tone out there for just about any genre, and they're solid. Plus, they're sexy. Mine's black with gold trim around the edges and gold hardware. Best damn guitar ever built.
I also have one of those cheap squier Strats, Cream body with a white pick guard. Not so sexy.

look man to be honest i don't like the way les pauls look and if i think a guitar is ugly i'm not gonna play it even if playing it causes every female around me to spontaneously orgasm
well maybe then but since that's unlikely my argument stands

i was in the same room as a $12,000 guitar at a store in new york once
then they realized a college student can't afford that and i got kicked out

there's actually a store in edmonton that is pretty world-class in terms of guitar selection and actually has a number of guitars in that price range
priced thusly because famous people once owned them and possibly even played them or moved them around from residence to residence
KILL YOUR IDOLS is unfortunately not a well-known maxim in the world of guitar

At that kind of price it's just ridiculous, unless the guitar can cook and wipe your ass for you. There's no real difference between a $12,000 guitar and a $2,000 guitar.

perhaps the appeal is that of owning a guitar that sold for $12,000
also, holy shit on this hijack, good work everybody

I guess it's worth noting that some guitars will have better off-the-shelf hardware than others, as well. The factory pickups in my Explorer (which *is* a Gibson) actually run hot like a motherfucker, and might be somewhere near the range of an active-type pickup that would run you $200.

I need to get a new bass one of these days... it's bad when your guitarist
and drummer both have a nicer bass than you do...
Being poor sucks.

Man, if your guitar doesn't burst in flames and ends up smashed on the floor, you're doing it wrong.

I sorta want a new guitar. My current one does this weird echo thing if I press down on the first frets. But I love it so much and don't have hundreds of pounds and we get horribly raped on this island for music stuff.

Protip for people ashamed of their cheap no-name strat:
*remove neck(take off strings first)
*replace with 'genuine' Fender neck with decals and everything bought for about $100 after browsing online auction sites
*Buy strap that says 'Fender'
*Profit
Seriously this works. The other 'tarist in my group did this and at one christmas party gig we did last year some chick was actually grinding his leg. Even his wife was impressed by this. POWER OF LEO!

I guess i could just buy one online or something but I'd rather try it out first y'know?

You have more than likely worn down the frets around there because
of the horribly stupid taste in music you have I suspect you're probably playing a lot of songs with riffs that focus on doing a lot of pulloffs and hammerons around the first few frets. My first guitar was bought secondhand from someone who did just that and it had a "weird echo" effect.

I had the fretboard rebuilt on my Axis for about AU$100(he redid all the wiring at the same time and performed the usual housekeeping), which was money well spent; got rid of an annoying E rattle and gave the whole thing a new lease on life.
