Sprites and pixel art?

Post by adam_grif »

This semester I decided to take a breather and enroll in a unit called "Games Fundamentals". It rocks, and the major assessment is making a game using Actionscript 3. I've got all that shit down pat, but the most time consuming thing for me at the moment is just making sprites. It's taken like four hours to produce the following parts for what will at some stage become a hierarchical sprite of Crab Nicholson:

The lecturer has given the OK to using sprites and materials that we didn't make ourselves, since the unit is focused on assessing the coding side of it, not the artwork side. So, does anybody have recommendations for where to start looking? I've come across some pages of ones that I'm fairly certain are not open source (i.e. sonic, mega-man etc), and a few libraries of open source sprites that didn't have what I was looking for.

Basically, I just want some dinosaurs. I found a multi-part T. rex-alike, but it looked fucking retarded.

EDIT:

Never-mind, I'm a retard. Close thread or leave it open so people can mock my work.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'
