Help me figure out this song

I must have listened to this song a dozen times and I can't figure out the meaning.

It has to be a parody, right? It's making fun of emo kids, right? I mean, no one could possibly write a song about how it's god's fault that some kid stole his dad's car and crashed it, right? Even Simple Plan couldn't play this one straight, right?

Right?

Nope. Its like Godwins law. Not even knowing the song or the band they are probably genuine and not ironic. Its just like all those vampire bands from germany, you'd think they are pulling a leg somewhere but when you see them in an interview you realise that nope.

So lets turn to Google, yupp it seems that the Godwins law works this time as well...

I think at least for us we try to write the most honestly real songs possible and that makes a different because were all unique.

I know there's a lot of kids out there who have been writing to us telling us how much they relate to the songs and that's amazing. Our goal was to just write something that was real for and real for other people and it seems to be working out. When something sad happens that's when we want to write about something and it's more important then because if everything happy and the sun is shining outside you don't want to writing a song.

One notable feature of Simple Plan's music is that with songs like 'Worst Day Ever', 'I'm Just a Kid' and 'God Must Hate Me' they are quite dark lyrically but the music has an upbeat tempo.

Pierre) We're influenced by pop punk and actual pop music from earlier like from the sixties and seventies. We like good melodies and when it comes to writing lyrics we like to write about things that either piss us off or things that have made us angry or sad. It becomes that way. We like happy melodies and want to talk about our problems - sort of therapy.
Sebastien) It's a happy medium. Or a sad medium - Who knows!
