Battleship animation

Grahf asked if i could do a picture or something with his new battleship design, so I obliged.

I made a few pictures, and then though 'what the hell, I'll do a flyby animation and see what it looks like moving'. This in turn led to me thinking 'what the hell, I'll make a little scene of it', and so added a setup where the little asteroid exploration ship inadvertantly witnesses a short battle with the ship and an as yet un-animated adversary.

Plan is for me to have another monster ship appear and a faeces/fan interface occurs as missiles fly everywhere with the onlooker watching from a safe distance. This much has taken a week of overnight rendering sessions, pretty much every shot in this taking half an hour to an hour to set up and then leaving it to render overnight. Hopefully in a week or so I'll have part 2 done.

That is seriously awesome Kenny. Don't know really what else to say. You have any ideas for a baddy ship yet? I would suggest a ship from a different designer. Maybe Imperial wouldn't mind having his Warlord used.

I was thinking maybe this, but his new Warlord might do the trick. I'd need to get it, convert it, light it, etc...

EDIT: By the way, are you ok if I put a couple of versions of the ship on my website for people to download? I'd put up my conversion to lightwave with the scene files, and also the .OBJ basic version so people can use it in a variety of 3D packages?

I dont mind at all. Is there any way I can get a copy of the video scene once its done?

If you want to use the Warlord I can send you the Max file, with all of the lights. I can also bring it more to the scale of Graph's ship, since atm the Warlord is about 7 times the length of it.

Grahf: what do you mean by the video scene? Do you mean the scene files from Lightwave or something else? The video file itself?

Imperial528: I cant import or convert .max files, very little can because of the way they are made. I'd need it as a sketchup model, a .obj, a .3ds, .lwo or a .dxf file.

I hope you guys aren't expecting some huge battle scene, it would take waaayyy too long to set up properly and render. This is just meant to be a relatively quick thing taking a few nights a week to get some nice shots of the models. If I was going to make a full battle I'd need to spend a lot more time and do it better quality than the current one. I have a couple of live action film projects on the go right now that I have to do CG elements and some After Effects for, there's no way I could fit it all in. There might be a few missiles or laser shots, but not much else.

I wasn't expecting anything in the first place. All i wanted was some pics. Hell, you could have them just ram each other. Do whatever you feel like doing, you know me, anything is good for me. And I was referring to the video file itself.

I'll zip up the finished avi file and put it on my website and send you a link so you can download it directly.
