Howdy all y'all. Sorry I haven't been around in a while... real life and stuff
This is a project I have had in mind for years. I have just been waiting to score the right parts and have the time. This is still very WIP but is going well.
I read the book "Han Solo at Stars End" when I was a kid and have always been facinated by the concept of the Z-95 Headhunter. I was never comfortable with the images of the ship as a single wing, two gun X-wing concept although I did like the mythology that it was an Incom/Subpro predessesor to the T-65.
I love the Alfred Wong models that actually incorporate swing wings, triple blasters ,twin engines and still look like they could be an X-wing ancestor but I can't afford Al's stuff and I also know that the Z-95 is supposed to be "fork tailed. I also like the mythology that there have been many generations of Headhunter and that everyone in the Star Wars universe seems to modify everything from factory specs...
So after that overly long intro here is my take on a Z-95 Headhunter
Here is the whole bucket so y'all can see the buildup

Fascinating...looks like a kitbash of a variable-sweep wing with an X-Wing fuselage and a pair of podracer engines. Very hot-rod.

Yep, exactly. F-111 wings, F-15 tail components, X-wing fuselage, pod racer engines and of course many, many assorted bits.
Just the 2 sets of triple blasters consist of 36 pieces
There are speederbike parts, details from a Klingon BOP ,B wing bits, there is even a Wright engine cylinder head

I don't like it. I fucking love it.

Apart from the lack of covering on the engines, it looks really nice.

Yeah, it could definitely use some partial covering leaving some of the detailed bits exposed, but even without the changes I'd make I love it. Looks like a fucking powerhouse.

Thanks y'all
I hunted up some stuff out the parts stash. Tomorrow I will mock up some engine armor and see what you think.

looking good, hard to say for sure until it's fully done, but so far it's looking great.

Looks like you're adding stormtrooper armor on there
I like it so far. Reminds me of a Y-Wing's engines.

Thanks bubba. I am happy to take suggestions and I like the idea of the extra panels and I have had such good feedback that they are now permanent as opposed to mocked up. I have also done some other minor mods and greeblyfyin to refine the design.

The funny bit is that as I was looking through the parts stash for bits I can positively identify the existing coverings on the podracer engines as P-51 Mustang and since the Clone Wars and other current? stuff has roundish intakes I threw some Lavochin sheetmetal on there, leftover podracer intake bits ,and a couple of F-15 exhaust parts and it still looks like something that should be in the Star Wars universe

Well, given Lucas' love affair with WWII-era dogfights (borne out with Red Tails) it's not really surprising; I'm willing to bet more than one of the original models for Star Wars were kitbashed from that kind of stuff

The old studio models used a huge amount of plastic WWII era models for a lot of the detailing. Howitzers, tanks, fighters, battleships. No small details from any of those would look out of place. People far more dedicated[mental] than me have tracked down the parts used in many of the models.
That said, this looks freaking awesome

Thanks y'all. Star Wars and the way they built and detailed the models is what started me kitbashing.

This thing would probably give Adam Savage a nerd-boner.
