Ok, post your favorite covers of songs. It's really simple, just look around for songs you like being played by people other than whoever wrote the song and/or originally performed it. If you want to discuss the merits of a cover vs the original song, sure, fine. Just make sure to occasionally post actual covers so the signal to noise ratio doesn't get out of wack.
To get us started...
Because everything is better as METAL. The Eagles are not exempt from this rule.
Frank Sinatra is fair game too.
Wait, that's not METAL... Oh well, fuck it.

Cowboy Junkies took a Velvet Underground song and made it theirs.
Even Lou Reed said it was the best cover, ever.
They also did some killer blues covers on their first album, like this John Lee Hooker song.
And yeah, metal makes everything better

And now for something completely different:

It could be argued that Phantom of the Opera was always metal to start with.
Along with the metal theme, I love this for some reason.
Also,
I don't know who made the video, but it werks really well

Ok, opeing the thread to "Vs" vids (*Take one band and mix it with a song from another band, see below for an example*) and instrumental covers involving the original singer's voice.
I admit I like Lady Gaga. She's fucking AWESOME and if you disagree, then, well, whatever, douchebag. I like that weird bitch, eat me.
Ok, so I gotta admit I love this whole Djent thing...
Stop looking at me like that, dicks.
*Best "Vs" ever. EVER!*

A Perfect Circle did an Imagine cover which takes a saccharine sweet, optimistic song and turns it on its head. One of my favorite covers.
I can never get embedding to work, so here's just a link.

Oh good one.
This isn't a cover which re-imagines the song (though it's very good), but the video is pure hilarity.
I love Maynard so much.

Because out of all of Johnny Cash's great covers, this one is the best.
I see your metal Sinatra and raise you punk Sinatra.
Quite possibly the best matched video and cover that I've seen.
Why yes, they are covers.
Just because.
Strummer and Cash covering Marley? Yes please!

Swan Lake, metal version. Dark Moor in general are pretty sweet, they've done versions of Vivaldi's Winter and Dies Irae, amongst others.

Much more moving then the original.
My preferred version.
Everyone loves Woodstock.
Definitely the most famous version.
They've recorded several dozen covers, but this is one of the best.

Concerning Hurt, I can't even stand the original.
I get a lot of shit for this one, but I prefer the Ugly Kid Joe version of Cat's in the Cradle over the original.
Also of note: The Beach Boys - California Dreamin'
And the Battlefield Theme cover:
EDIT: I'll also mention a favorite of the Wife's: I Need a Hero from Shrek

I'd have to second Johnny Cash's "Hurt" as the best cover ever.
Also : Ataris - Boys of Summer. Not the same as the Don Henley version but it was a good one.

Trent Reznor would probably agree with you, considering his comments on the cover:
I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn’t mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure.
